Default High Millage Vettes...

Yeah I understand that people like to buy their vettes with low miles, but honestly is it horrible to buy a vette with 70,000+ miles on it. How good are these LS1's built?

The LS-1, with proper oil changes, etc... is good for well over 100,000 miles. There are several forum members that have high mileage engines with no problems.

Low mileage is a plus, but if the car has been properly maintained, 70K is certainly acceptable in terms of miles on the car. There are many here that have in excess of 100K on their car and they are still going strong.

70k miles is not inherently bad----but it simply comes down to how well the car was maintained & frankly how hard it was driven. if it was used for the weekly gentle jaunt to church then that might be one issue but if it went drag racing frequently that could be a radically different issue. i'll concur w/ the other poster that with proper maintenance & presummably sensible driving, at 70k the ls1 has a long way to go. bub

I'm pushing 80k on my daily driver and it's as smooth as the day I bought it. Of course, new tires, shocks, brake pads, oil changed every 5k (Mobile 1), serpentine belts, fluids, etc......just like all my cars.

If it hasn't been beat on and has been well maintained it should go over 200,000 miles easy.

I've seen one taken apart at 250k and hardly any wear whatsoever. They are built to last as long as the engine is keep stock. Start changing cams and pistons or other things and you sacrifice longevity. I figure 500k and it might need rings.

I just bought a 01 Z06 in July. It has about 70.5 K on the clock. So far it runs and looks real good. I like the car, but I shouldn't have bought it when I did. I'm trying to sell it, and the lowballers are using the mileage against me.

Any car with late model build specs will last 250k with proper mileage. It seems the corvette guys are majorly concerned with this (and they should be, its an expensive car) but these motors would be completely unacceptable if they didnt last at least 250k properly maintained, and they should.

I bought mine in April this year with 76k on it, a 2000 coupe. Everyone stayed a way from it because of the miles. Do not know how it was treated, but it seems in pretty good shape. The finish has a few scratches, looks good from a few feet a way but a little rough up close :o (time to have a body shop take a look at it). The miles did not bother me so much because I plan on keeping it for quite a while.

I have put 5k on it this summer and besides new tires I have not had any real maintenance expenses so far. I just got a couple of codes, a P0410 which according to some on this forum is pretty easy to fix. And the RF wheel speed sensor is not functioning. Just got a 'race' floor jack to be able to check on some of these things myself...

The engine is not the only thing to consider in a high mileage car. But, IMO a much higher than normal percentage of Corvette owners take very good care of their Vetts. They respect their Vetts more than your average sports car owner as well. Spirited driving is what the car was made for, so does not count as abuse. And these are durable sports cars, not just car show divas.

Overall, I'm impressed with the condition of my Corvette

104k on mine and a very good friend of mine has 127k on his with no problems. His is pretty much stock and mine has a cam. Both are daily drivers.

It seems the drivetrain is most often the first to show weakness with miles? My trans and rearend are still stock with occasional trips to the drag strip and countless full throttle blasts and races from a roll. THe only driveline replacements have been the clutch ***. and just recently an exploded tq. tube bushing. My buddies with 127k miles has had the trans replaced, tq tube/bushing replaced and last year when he decided to go to the track for the first time, he broke the rearend housing and right side half shaft!?

sorry for the book, but i figured you would appreciate the info.
