Car shows..ever feel unwanted?
I know we are suppose to have fun and take it in stride but.. went to a show yesterday with Ray, 00 vette( rabale2),Ken ,04 vert(kcvett) another friend Dale ,01 vette and myself. Ken and I have lots of chrome under the hood and Ray and Dale have a good start on their engines and all of us keep our cars CLEAN! We were the only c5's there and out of 200 cars and 75 trophy's none of us won . Street rod club put it on and most of the winners were older cars exept a 97 mits.eclipse and a 04 honda civic I guess we were not wanted at this show.
Oh well at least it was a sunny day!

I've noticed at the all Corvette shows that people tend to pay more attention to the C1, C2, & C3's. That is understandable, you'l just have to wait another 30 yrs. for your C5 to draw attention

You should come to Atlanta. The vette shows consist of only C5s and the exact same people win every single time. Not a bad way to spend 25 bucks.
Just kidding
Those hot rodders tend to not think the C5s are that great. They feel like they built their cars and we just picked ours off of a lot. I can kind of see where they are coming from

I have be invloved in car shows either as a competitor, judge, spectator, or builder of a competiors car for the past 16 years. Unless you attend a "real" car show not everyone is going to be happy with the results. Let me clairfy "real" show. That is one organized and judged by a known sactioning body with a known pre-set of rules. Most car shows are judged by either club members, volunteers, or by the attendee's aka people's choice. The problem with those shows is the general public does not know what to look for. They do not know how to tell a one-off part from an over the counter part and so on. Even alot of the sactioned shows do not have the proper juding staff training.
My advice...attend whatever shows you want and have fun. I enter every show with the intent of having a good time. IF my car gets a trophy then sweet...if not oh well there is another next weekend. Enjoy your ride and the cool people you get to meet at the show.

Not all car shows are fair - at least you had a good time.

well i cant really say i have attended any show with my z06. i did recently attend a m3 meet that had a few supras, 996 porsches and even a sl65 and lambo showed up.
alot of guys crouded around my z and asked alot of question about the car. the supra and porsche owners have alot of respect for the corvette.

Me and my son took my 2002 vette and his 1971 C10 pickup last month to a small local car show. The judges looked at all the cars there and walked right by my vette and never stopped and looked at it.They looked at my sons 1971 pickup for about 20 min.and he won 1st place with his pickup.
I think if you pay the entery fee you should be judged.
Well it was the first time my son has shown his pickup so it was fun to see him win.He is only 15 years old.By the way the first car he ever drove was my 2002 C5 vette! He had drove my pickup and his moms Escalade but no cars untill he drove my vette.

It’s been my observation that non club members at Corvette shows and Corvettes at old car shows are discriminated against.

I have been active in car shows for over 30 years as both a participant and a judge. If the show is properly conducted, member's cars are only for display with no judging at all on them. Many shows have participant or spectator judging and many times the more detailed cars are overlooked for some flashy, unusual car that garners the votes. I have a 1923 Ford Model T street rod that I have owned for over 25 years. It has been in a couple of major car mags and always scores well in a judged show. My 2004 torch red Z06 is totally bone stock and I have never had it in a judged show, but have attended many cruise-in with it and the street rod and they both get about the same attention, but from different people. Some people appreciate the work that goes into a street rod and others appreciate the Corvette for the great American icon it is.

If you're going to "shown-n-shine" local car shows to win, I think you are going for the wrong reasons. I mostly go to see the other cars and to BS with the people at the show. If someone at the show enjoys seeing my car, then it is even better. When I lived in Dallas, I went to these shows once a week in the summer....sometimes I won (with my '99 hugger orange Camaro SS), sometimes I didn't. I always had a good time.
