Bright light's from behind
I have a 2000 vert. I had the top down coming from work at night and some jackalope decided to ride my bumper with some bright headlights. They were shining right into my rearview mirror. I could of easily left'em in the dust, But I could'nt because the state police frequent this stretch of road. I let them have their fun untill the next exit. How does everyone handle this type of situation?

Flip the mirror and ignore them or gradually slow down to 10-15mph under the posted speed limit.

I flip the mirror to the alternate setting - at least it helps a bit.

I too flip the mirror, and start to slow down. I let them pass me. Sometimes (when I'm in the mood) I return the favor and give them a taste of their own medicine.
I never hit the brakes suddenly when someone follows too close, 'cause I know I stop quicker than most and don't want the tail-gater to become part of my vette.

If i were you i would have done a Break Check. Slammed on brakes and drop about 30mph. Then you would have scared the hell out of him. People like that really **** me off. I wouldn't want him to hit me but i still would have break checked his a$$. I bet he wouldn't have followed you anymore.

to close
or,you could hit the emergency flashers and that would give the appearance that you just stepped on your brakes, although just for a second, but enough time to get a reaction out of a-hole following you!see if he backs off then!like turning your tail lights on during the day, same effect(affect?)or just gun it for a minute and change lanes.

Limo tint works wonders for bright lights ...
As for following too close , just move over if you can ... or drop the hammer and shrink the POS behind you.

Vettes are so low compared to many SUVs/trucks on the road the other vehicle's lights are nearly level with our mirrors. The other driver probably didn't even notice where his lights were hitting. Not that he can do anything about it anyway.
Now if he was 2 feet off your back bumper with his brights on, that's a different story.

I try and aim all my mirrors back at them. I don't know if it works but I do get some small satisfaction from it and the lights don't bother me anymore.
P.S.
If someone really knows aiming the mirrors doesn't work. Don't bust my bubble.

I give them a quick brake tap or two just to fire the brake lights. if they don't back off, I just start slowing down until they pass.
Wonder how hard it would be to do a Piaa mod to the back up lights and wire in a switch? Phasers on stun.
BTW... let me guess. The guilty party was a Dodge RAM pickup?

This is my approach as well. I am a very courteous driver, but if you are either an idiot or just inconsiderate then you will get one hell of a brake check from me Hopefully this " close encounter" will encourage more drivers to pay more attention when driving
