Default Help on painting calipers!!!!!

I have heard of two different methods of painting calipers. Spray painting them, or hand brushing them. Which one give the best result and which paint do you use????

Thanks for the help

Both ways have been done with great success. Two weeks ago I painted mine via spray. I decided that I was better at masking than the close detail brush work. I removed the brackets and sprayed them (3 coats), then sprayed the calipers (3 coats). I used a razor blade to remove the paint on the letters then used a Torch Red touch-up kit to paint the letters. I then sprayed three light coats of clear coat.
I am very pleased with the results.
I used Brake Caliper Paint which I found at Pep-Boys.
Good luck...and

I did mine by brush and it turned out nice, but if I had to do it all over again, I'd pull the calipers and spray them.

The problem with that is you have to bleed them and that's a real PITA.

I painted mine. Very easy to do and you dont have to mask anything off. To get the corvette letters to shine get yourself an emory board and a razor. Use the razor to scrape the letters and then the emory board to shine off the rest.

OMG How much freaking lead did it take to balance that wheel??? I count 12 pices at 1/4 oz thats 3 Ounces!!! You better go to a tire shop with a Hunter Road Force Balancer and get them to spin the tire on the wheel and get it right.

Don't have a pic but I painted mine with a brush and Foliatech caliper paint (found on-line for about $35-$50) then took a razor to the letters and they look great.

Whatever method you use make sure they are absolutely clean first. I had trouble with that.

Dont hate on me as its a F-body not a C5 ( My Z06 already has red ones:P )...but I did these over the weekend. Not too hard at all. I wish that I had done the brackets black in retrospect , but they came out good and are really shiny after 3 coats of clear. Im going to buy some Firehawk decals and then reclear them after I place the decals as I feel they are bland opposed to the Vettes which have the Corvette writing... Here ya go enjoy.......

Well I spent about 5 hours total with time to dry between coats......here are the photos....

Before

Sally Cleaned up th wheels...even the barrels shine

The finished project...

I tried both the spray and brush method. I did not like the way the spray paint would keep running. I was taking my time but I guess since they are aluminum they just don’t hold paint like the iron or steel calipers do. So the next week I put a coat of the brush type paint. After doing all of this work (cleaning, sanding, taping etc.) two times - I should have just bought the red z06 calipers and had I done in half the time. They turned out fine, but im extra picky and can see a few blemishes when I clean my wheels. If you want them perfect then just buy the z06 ones (imop).

You can also use regular paint. Just make sure the clear is high temp so the paint does not bubble or evaporate!!!
