Default '97 Vette, 95K Mi. $15K What do you think?

I'm thinking seriously about buying this car and selling my '85. I went to a big car show in northern Utah yesterday and saw it. It looks like it's in really good shape, drives well, no oil underneath as far as I can tell and paint is in great shape too. Torch red. Engine sounds good, no knocking or anything. Interior is fine. Do you think the price is about right? I've been looking on ebay, also the F/S section of this forum trying to get a feel for it, but you actual C5 owners will know best.

Thanks!
Shayne

Nice dollars, high miles. Buy it, run it till it blows drop in a new monster motor for about 6-8k and you will have a killer car. 97 has the best fuel system.

Cool. I wondered with it being a first year C5 if there was anything I should be watching out for that was much improved upon in later years. It's number was 816 I think.

Thanks!

Sounds like a good deal. I just bought my 97 with 75K on the clock for 17K. All stock except Crome Wheels, Borla Exaust, KN Filter. Really like it

Don't let the miles scare you. My '99 is pushing 80k and runs better now then when new.

As long as it checks out mechanically, I'd say that is a good deal. See if the owner has all the maintenance records.

100k miles always scares me, but with that price, even if something went wrong, you're getting into a C5 for almost 5K less than usual. Given the reliability record of the major components (engine, transmission, etc.), I'd say go for it.

The 97-99s tend to have less problems with piston slap and oil consumption, so they are truly the best bargains out there on the used car market. You can get these early models for so much less than the 00-04s, so you've still got money left over to replace the ugly wagon wheels.

And an early model in good condition with newer rims on it can still pass for a 2004 model. People constantly tell me they think my car is an 04 model.

I'd say jump on it sspackman. I've got an early '97 with 53k on the odo and she's still going strong. I've had no problems worth mentioning with the car. I hope to see 100k and beyond from this awesome automobile.

Unfortunately you will NEVER find such prices in the real world ... not even close.

If it checks out well, jump on it ... it won't last long

I got my '97 last March for $18,000 (50K).... the car was (is) mint... I just got back from my nightly drive... I just cruise around, polish it, and give it a "pat" in the morning.... if the car is in really good shape, get & enjoy it... don't play the $$$ game (just don't be "taken" either)... enjoy the season while it is upon us (at least here in the N.E.) !!!
