I got mine from the Home Depot parts dept. and it must be good for at least 10 HP. Only problem is that I opened up the Foglight Shrouds and now the engine gets dirty.

I have heard that people's mileage has varied on the effectiveness of the hood seal depending on installation.

Anyone who actually claims they've accomplished any of the three with a hood seal is simply full of
ALL the seal will do is reduce errant water drops and dust build-up from under the leading edge of the hood...and hence reducing the exposure to those on your open air cleaner.
With the amount of airflow coming up from the bottom of the car I seriously doubt that the seal even reduces measurable amounts of dust in the engine compartment. I've had the seals on my C5s for years and I sure don't see a difference in the overall dust factor under the hood.

It does keep the engine bay cleaner
I have two Verts: with the S/O driving one, me the other, went to Oklahoma City from DFW (approximately 300 miles).
My '99 had the seal installed. Her '04 did not.
My engine bay was substantially cleaner when we stopped at OK City.
On the drive back we had installed a hood seal on her '04.
Back in DFW it was apparent that there was a difference between having the seal installed vs running OEM

I purchased one after returning from the Cruise In because of the coating of pollen my engine compartment received in Kentucky. I have not driven it enough yet to tell if it will help, but I hope so. If it reduces the "Dust Factor," It will be worth the 15 bucks or so it costs. If it does not, it still is no big loss. I have never had any kind of idea it could improve performance and I cannot imagine why anyone would think that.

If you would have continued reading, you would have found that I was talking about the means in which the hoodseal was installed. I spoke earlier to the Horsepower/Temp issue (neither of which I could confirm), but I did speak to the cleanliness/water protection. Mine is installed parallel, others have installed it perpendicular and indicated better results. I was just enlightening the original poster that there is more than one way to install the hood seal and mileage (on the two variables of which I was speaking) may vary.
P.S. "mileage may vary" was a figure of speech. I wasn't actually referring to gas mileage.

I've never seen a hoodseal that stays in place all the way across.
My opinion is it's a piece of junk.
I would think it WOULD keep some dust out of the engine bay, but horsepower gains? Paleeeez, those guys claiming that are crazy and anyone believing them is crazier.

I've had mine on now for about two months and am convinced that it keeps the engine compartment cleaner. The self-stick adhesive did not work well, and I wound up using 3M contact cement to glue the strip on both the horizontal and vertical surfaces that contact the body. It stays in place now.
