Seriously, did you (or anyone else) clean the hoses with anything like Armorall or other rubber preservative?
How about high pollen levels in your area lately?

Are you talking about a white haze? I've noticed a white haze on an aftermarket rubber coupler that I installed between the throttle body and the air bridge. i don't know what the haze is, but if I spray on some armourall, it cleans up like new. I suspect in my case that this is some kind of oxidation of the armourall.

When I got my C5 (used), the door channel rubber "boot" or "conduit" on both sides had a white/yellow flakey substance on it.
Ended up replacing both with new ones from Gmpartsdirect.
I suspect the original culprit was an application of Armorall.

I think it may be mold release, or some kind of protectant or something like that put on the rubber parts when they are made. It seems to come off different parts at different times/rates. I noticed yesterday with the front fender off the boot around the clutch cylinder was white. I reached in and is was like white dust off over the boot. It was on the top, bottom, down in the grooves. I know it was not something like Armorall that just got on the boot because you can't even see this thing when the fender is on and other rubber parts next to them was not white. It was like it was growing on the boot. Of course thanks to the great GM quality assembly the boot was just stuck about the clutch cylinder, it was not stuck in the hole through the firewall so it was sealing nothing!

It's probably some kind of oxidation on the rubber - kind of like what happens to tires. A good protectant should clear it up.

I worked part time at AutoZone as a Manager and we received hoses in bulk and all of them were covered (brand new keep in mind) with a dusting of this white stuff. I was silky smooth to the touch kinda like talcum powder.
Talked to a guy from Gates one night and he said that when they make belts and hoses that they use a parting compound to keep the rubber from sticking to the molds and extruders and that is what you find on the hoses. During the process the heat takes the stuff into the pores of the rubber. He also said that when there is no more left on the rubber to start looking for cracks etc. as it acts like a preservative.
It can be cleaned up with tire dressing by wiping the hoses with it, not just spraying it on. Trouble is that it will leach out and return.
Don't really know if it was or not, but parting compund with composites we lay up here at work does the same thing after we take the parts out of the clave. Sounds plausible.

Its zinc oxide powder, used in the production process it retards the
natural deterioration and brakedown of the rubber. Thats the reason
over time it comes back due to the rubbers deterioration.
Oh, I'm not a scientist, just a good Googler!!
