Default Need Trouble Shooting advice for "Cricket Type Sound"

I have this Cricket type sound, that happens every now and then and have noticed it at idle and also on Acceleration while driving "easy" through the sub-division. Anything that I should be looking for??? I am thinking it may be a belt??? I am pretty sure I have had the main belt changed last year but need to search records.

I had a "cricket" under my hood a few months ago...really irritating.

Replaced the tensioners and idlers on the serpentine and A/C belt and the noise vanished. I cranked the car as I replaced each piece and it turned out to be the idler on the A/C belt.

Changed the one on top first since it was easy. Still chirped, so I had the one (A/C ?) on the bottom changed. No more chirp!

Isn't it annoying - to go chirping down the street. Happened to me - I changed out just about every moving thing in front of the motor - fixed it for a few months. Then the AC tensioner started up. It only made the noise when it was cold.

So is this a reliability problem that needs to be dealt with immediatly or just an annoying one that should be dealt with eventually????

Thanks For all of the feedback!!!!

Also, not being very mechanically inclined as far as working on engines, is this something simple to change out or should I take it to the dealer?

Thats a classic sign of not the idler tesioners, but the small bearing thats in the middle

Dont change the whole idler. Just press the bearing out (easy), take it to any bearing shop (look in yellow pages)

They cost about $5

This is a freq prob in C-4's, and will become one in C-5's with age and mileage
