Default CAN'T DECIDE!!! Run Flats or Non Run Flats?

I'm torn. I need some new rubber soon and I've heard people (mostly here on CF) say change to non run flats, some say, "no way, got to have the run flats". I've pretty much decided on the Michelin Pilot Sport's but I need some good advice on Run flats or not. Give me your opinions please. Thanks, Mike.

I love my Michelin Pilot Sports NON-RUNFLATs. Made a world of difference in both sound and performance. I have the mercedes jack and a professional repair kit and have made only one repair in 2 years.

It really depends on how you would feel about the possibility of having to repair your tire on some dark road somewhere. Is the smoother ride and less noise worth it.
I got rid of my run-flats. The ride was like another car. So nice!! But be prepared...have a patch kit, compressor, flashlight, and jack.
Just last weekend I was leaving the mall and picked up what looked like a hollow nail. I didn't have anything to fix it. I limped back to the mall which had a sears auto center...which was closed. After calling a friend and going to two different stores to find all the stuff, two hours later I was all patched and back on my feet...well tires.
Overall: The ride is smoother and quite without run-flats...just be prepared!!

I am sticking with the run flats. Due to my wife driving it. I know I have AAA but, I will not have some high school drop out put my car on a flat bed with me not there. When I change, I will probably go with the Pilot Sport Zero Pressures.

Toyos here. Best decision I ever made was to get rid of the Run Flats. Figured it would cost about a tire to get one repaired if it ever got a hole.

IMO, non-run flat tires give greatly improved ride quality (a lot less jarring) as well as much quiter ride as well.
As far as grip, there is no comparison, no-run flats win hands down.
As far as your choice of tires, I too have the Mich high sports and can confirm that the wear very well, have good grip and are much quieter than run flats along with improved wet handling.
Personally I keep a z06 style portable air pump and emergency flat kit for those situations AAA isn`t available.

Good luck, Rick

i ditched my runflats.

about two months ago i got a flat, took less than 15 minutes to demount the tire, fix it, pump it up and put it back on.

next day i payed $20 to have it patched.

verses the who knows how much they still charge to repair the runflats plus the possibility they may just tell you they cant repair them they need to be replaced.

for the $25 i spent in roadside repair stuff I'm not worry.

and btw, when my tire blew out I was going about 110 and was able to safely pull it off somewheres to repair it..

I just got a set of Falken GR-Beta non runflats put on yesterday. The comfort level is night and day difference. Much quieter and with the F45 suspension, the performance setting is about as punishing as the touring setting with runcraps.

Non, no questions. iF you dont have highend rims, just put a can of fix a flat in your car. If you do you can buy a plug and infate kit with acompressor for less than $50 at wally world. Think about it, Is it a Daily driver, how often have you had a flat before?

Default r/f's

Well,i switched to toyo t1-s proxies, real nice tire's,and 800 installed!!!then i got real paranoid, and switched back to r/f's.not goodyear's,yokohahama's.nice tire, quiet too.now i drive worry free.i might get another set of rims and some non-runflats though, for local driving, and then put runflats on with their own rims, when i go to the jersey shore or carlisle!who know's???i'm a little whacked and i have an allergy to money,so i can;t be around it for long!!!

Gotta admit that I haven't driven a Vette without GY OEM runflats. But I've driven a hell of a lot of cars in my day, as have you all, and these things are not that noisy. I personally believe it's a bunch of bunk about all the runflat noise. If you are experiencing too much noise, your runflats are over inflated. I like the safety of having 'em, even though I supplement my sense of well-beingt with AAA.

Use "fix-a-flat" in a can and chances are you trash your pressure sensor. Go with the repair kit.

Wouldn't fix a flat ruin the expensive tire pressure sensor in the wheel?

OOPS. Posted same answer as post above.

** wow, this is a tough call for me as well. but i find myself 60% agreeing with the poster above & 40% saying go with the non emt tires. we have oem goodyear emts on our vette; the ride is indeed stiff but i figure what-the-hey-it's-a-vette. i think i'm sticking w/ emt tires. bub
