Default 4 hours labor to change rotors ands pads?

Dealer quoted me 4 hours to replace rotors and pads. Is this reasonable? Thanks!

I'd say half that is a safe estimate with a lift, etc.

Is there anything to watch for that is different from say the C3's or other cars? I have all the parts just haven't got to it yet. Had the Rotors Powder Coated where they rust with some Hi Temp Black stuff. Anxious to see if that stays on?

Put up on lift
Take off tires, brackets/pads/rotors
Put on new pads/rotors
Bleed brakes
Put on tires
Take off lift
Test drive

Did I leave anything out?

Yeah, all 4. I would like to DIY, but there are 2 problems. I dont know how to do it and I live in an apt in downtown Seattle, so I dont have anywhere to do it.

Sounds real easy. I have a new power bleeder and the special cap you need, plus some stainless lines. Next week I will do it. Thanks.

If you have the stealer do it watch them and time them (deduct time for breaks, etc.) then when it's done if they only took 2 hours tell them that's what you should pay for and not the quoted 4 hours, if they insist you pay for 4 le5t them know you're gonna take the matter up with Corporate and the BBB.

I was charged 5 hours for replacing all 4 rotors, pads, AND brake lines (stainless steel, required flushing the brakes). They had two guys working on it and took just under 3 hours. Total with supplies (less tax) was about $480.

This was at a Milwaukee area Chevy Dealer.

That's what I hate about dealerships. They have an outrageous hourly rate and then use book rate and charge you for longer than it actually takes in most cases.

It did not take me that long to do mine. I would say 2 hrs with a jack and some jackstands.

No need to bleed brakes if only changing pads. Make sure you torque the bolts to spec. I had heard of caliper bolts letting go while driving -a little loctite helps.

4 hours?! you have got to be kidding me, I use to be a ford technician, but if you cant do all 4 rotors and pads (and this includes turning the rotors as you work) in 45 minutes, you must have one arm.

I did my front rotors/pads in 20 minutes and I turned the rotors while doing it.

4 hours sounds about right. I was glad that the dealership was able to provide jobs for the children of St. Joseph's House for the Blind.

Oh yeah getting it up high enough in a home garage to use a torque wrench to torque pad brackets to 125 f/p.
I used floor jack and jack stands. Don't forget the "red loctite" on the bracket bolts and the "blue" on caliper bolts.
Use speedbleeders to bleed the system. May as well bleed out all the old brake fluid and refill with new dot 3 or dot 4 brake fluid.
It may take you a little longer than 4 hours, BUT you will save a bunch of $$. may as well go drilled and slotted rotors
That is my $0.02

Damm, I'm getting old! It would take me over 20 minutes just to get the car jacked up.
