Default Pros/Cons of Dealer CL recall.

I have a stock 04 with no tuning modifications. I also have in hand the CLB Kit to install. Is there any advantage to warranty issues to having the recall done and then installing the bypass?

Pros:

You won't get Recall notices in the mail

Cons:

You have to take it to the dealership
It won't fix the problem totally

I already had the CLB on my car when I got the recall notice. I decided to remove the CLB, get the recall done, then reinstall the CLB. Took a little of my time, but now GM won't be sending me notices about the recall.

The recall will fix the column lock issues on automatic transmissioned cars.

It won't do anything for 6 speeds.

I had the recall done on my '04 6-speed and have not had a problem. Wonder if it's just one of those things where it works for some and not for others?

Okay for those of you that haven't read all the threads about the recall. The only thing they do for 6 speeds is to reprogram the computer so the fuel pump shuts off should a column lock be detected. That is it! The column locking mechanism is not fixed, replace or even touched.

Installed the CLB several years ago. Sent the recall letters back to GM. Why gamble on this problem ?????

I agree. I finally ordered mine yesterday after my column locked up the 3rd time I've owned the car (although I am unable to unlock it myself each time). The previous owner mentioned the column lock so I'm sure it was "serviced" before.

Until GM does a "real" fix, not just a band-aid fix for the M6's, I'm not letting the dealer touch squat.

Default Thanks for this thread - just got a call from dealer re: column lock

I have a 2000 FRC MN6 bought on this board recently, took into Mac Haik Ford here in Houston yesterday to have the left front driving light lamp replaced.

The dealership called this morning and told me not to be in a hurry to come in and get the car as the column locked up on them in their garage !!!!

They told me $430 to replace the actuator, I told them B.S. - they then told me this part has been replaced twice on this car already.

I am waiting for the service manager to call me back....

From reading the posts above, it looks like I need to get the CLB installed ASAP.

Thanks
Jason

Default Just ordered CLB for my 2K FRC MN6

Ordered 2nd day air to Houston, total 107.46 from PFYC

Man, these vettes are high maintenance, I am starting to miss my simple straighforward 03 KB Cobra....

Not really...

Missed my 9AM appointment at HPE this morning to have the Kooks 1 7/8 LT headers and off road x-pipe installed, oh well....reschedule..

Had the recall procedure performed on my A4 a little over a year ago and no problems since.

That sounds expensive for the CLB. Is that the GM one I read about? The aftermarket one is ~$45 to $50.

I just found the first one I could by doing a search on CLB with the forum vendors, that price I quoted included second day air to houston from washington state.

That used to be the case until the harness K was revised...GM has had many issues with the new white TYCO relay that is part of the harness K.It is hit or miss on getting one that works properly
