Default Another Service Tire Pressure System Thread

I have been occasionally been getting a service tire pressure monitor reading on the DIC for a couple months. Sometimes it will show up, and other times it will run fine for 2 weeks without an error message. When I hit reset after the message, the only tire that doesn't show up is the Front right, so I know that one is the culprit. Yesterday, the message came on again, and now it comes on every time I start and shut off the vehicle, and same thing, the only one that doesn't register is the FR. Do you think that it was just a battery that went out in the sensor since the car is a 98 model?

The RR on my 02 has been doing it for 6mos. I'm planning a 4K mi vacation in June, so I bought a used 03 on ebay and I'm going to have it put in. Maybe just a CYA but I'll rest better.

the RF is the furthest from the receiver, so it is not uncommon that it is the frist to act up. Get a new sensor and you should be fine, although you will most likely hear from the other 3 before long...

I got an occasional service message for the tire pressure system for two years and I never had to do anything to the sensors. After driving for a bit all 4 would start working.
I just replaced all 4 sensors last week, so I am hoping that little annoyance will go away.

Is it expensive to replace a sensor?

depends on what year your car is.

'97-'00 are different from '01-'04.

I just got 4 sensors, o-rings, and nuts from Fred Beans for $358.76. That sale is over, but they are just a little bit more now if you check the sale section.

'01-'04 are actually cheaper...

took me a minute to find the link.

Default Easy to change

I just help a neighbor vettor change his rear sensor. Total time 5 minutes. Bought from gmdirect and reasonable price. I took the wheel to neighborhood (read very old tire business) and asked the owner to just pop one side of the tire so I could replace the sensor.
Most places won't let you get to the tire when "they" work on it.

With the tire broken down on the top side I used a deep socked to fit the nut and put a light film of refrigerant oil on the o ring. Removed the old sensor and installed the new one in under 1 minute after the tire was broken down. The dealer then just inflated the tire. Didn't rotate on the rim and did not rebalance. Worked great on the car.

This is not difficult when you get a dealer to work with you. My MB tires will come from this dealer. 99 Nassau Blue

Gene had the cheapest prices on new sensors, and if you have the older style, then Neri at Nericreations (forum vendor) can refurbish them for you for less thn new.

Tire warms up after driving! 23 LBS is below the warning threshhold, 26 is above. That's WTF you get the warning. The sensor is doing what it is supposed to do.

DJN, the sensors are not precise - their tolerances vary but you should be running your tires at 30psi cold.... Working range should be between 30 when they're cold and 33-34 when warm...

What did you find out? We have the same problem with our 99, very agravating, having a tire censer problem, since we go on trips and sure don't need a tire problem, let us know what you found out. Thanks

My father works for a GM dealer, so its no problem getting that dealer to work with us, but Im not sure if their equipment can correctly mount a C5 tire. Seems like one of the 'tire techs' told me that.

I'd have to go with your sensor is going out. Since your car is a '98, you may want to consider just replacing all 4 and be done with it.
