Default What a friggin rip-off!!!!!!!!!

I can not believe my eyes. I went down to the Pontiac dealer to check out the new 05 GTO. Nice ride. It comes with a 6 liter LS2 motor and even a MN6 transmission. Anyway, I told the guy that I got this Z06 Commerative Edition Z16 and I wanted to get as much as I could. He said no problem and got the information.
I knew I should have checked online at www.kbb.com but I didnt. Anyway I found out I owe a lot more to the bank than the damn car is worth!
An excellent condition Z06 commerative edition as a trade in is only worth 37,575 in Oregon....... WTF! Its supposed to be a special vette with only 2025 made......?
I am a little shocked considering that it only has 7200 miles on it and is in perfect condition. The 02 C5 coupe I traded for it in Oct got 33K, and that was with 53000 hard european miles on it!
Man these ***** here are a bunch of money stealing freaks!

If I traded and got a Goat then I would only lose.......
I think the only way someone is getting this Z06 is when the price goes back up. That means probably never......

Actually that is not really true and here is why. Consumers always.....and I mean always lose when trading in their cars. That value is going to be less than if you sold it yourself. Don't consider your cars trade in value as it true worth. Remember dealerships have to be able to sell that trade in and make a profit. So trade in value will be low. Never trade your car in if you want the most money for it. Most people trade their cars in because it's easier to do, then selling the car on their own.

Just because a limited quantity were made doesn't make it worth more. Supply and demand is what matters. Right now many do not want a C5 since the release of the C6.

I really appreciate the info but the fact is the car aint worth a damn once it is driven off the lot. I know I will keep it now. What really burns my azz is the way the system works by slamming you no matter what type of vehicle you drive. I could have bought a gold plated cadillac and they would find a way to kill the trade in value because all of the sudden gold is worth nothing.

You missed the deals on GTO's in December $5500 rebates and .9% interest plus invoice pricing or below plus $1500 certificates plus round up rebates on the GM card plus $3000 bonus rebate. $15000 off MSRP My son got his impulse blue GTO msrp 33495 for $18400. Wholesale price on the car at the time was 23-24K. Drive it off the lot and make money. I didn't qualify on my card. He had a whopping $5918 in gmcard rebate. One guy claimed he bought one for $15500 new.

$37575 trade in w/ 7200 miles may not be too far out of line. last january, a friend of mine bought a new z16 from a dealer in detroit for $41500 - i know, its hard to believe, but that's what he told me. on the other side, he traded in a 2001 6-sp coupe w/ something like 17K miles - they gave him 24K on the trade in - which i thought was kind of low - ??? guess it all evens out!

That's why I'm hopeing to buy a 1990-1995 ZR-1, because I won't really loose all that much money if I choose to sell it and the performance is still great by todays standards.

What you encountered is SOP IMO. No one should buy a vette expecting to trade it for a decent price in a year or two. Even those who plant their cars in their garage and never enjoy them lose money. BTW the same holds even if you're trading a Ford Taurus every year or so. It sounds like the price you were offered was not far off the mark given what newer ones are selling for.

I was looking at the number of cars built in 2004, and found that there were fewer torch red Z06s made than the Commemorative Edition. So much for limited edition.

Around here, the Z16 cars were the last to sell. Every dealer had one that they couldn't get rid off without giving it away last year. Because of that, they'll also depriate much more than most.

That's why it was called a Commemorative Edition, not Limited Edition. Normally the term limited is considered for models that had less than 1000 units made. Even then, there usually has to be something special about those also in order to raise the value over time.

If you sell your car on your own you should start at $46,550, thats what the blue book starts at.

why would you want a GTO to replace a Z06 ...besides the drive train, nothing else there. Suspension sucks and the car is ugly and looks like any regular car. I don't know why anyone would want that thing?!?!

All the magazines complained about the overweight and soft suspended couch machine. You'll be WAY disappointed.

good point - those zr1's are great performance buys. my choice would be a '91 driver with 25-50K miles.

Why would you want a GTO over a Z06?

Hopefully, well maybe hope not, that the C6 Z will be priced as rumored 70k...then you car probably will go up in value a bit. IMO.

Who knows.

If appears you got sucked up into the collectors term. Like anything a business trys to sell to consumers, picture plates come to mind, these things are never really worth as much as the business leads you to believe. A car is not an investment in general, so to think just because you are buying a limited edition or Commemorative version doesn't make it anymore special. And considering GM is just using tape and changing the emblems to make these cars so called "special", can you really expect them to be worth much more? All cars lose value once driven off the lot, the Corvette is no different.
