Default Windseld Heads up display

I just had my windshield repaired " a rock ". I was informed that if I was to replace the windshield with heads up display it was almost double the cost.
I remember reading a thread were you could install heads up on your car as a kit although you did not have to change the regular windshield.
QUESTION if I ever do have to replace the windshield can I just use a regular windshield?

I stand corrected......I just looked it up on GMPartsDirect......

No HUD = $271.42
HUD = $794.03

Do you carry full coverage insurance?

If not, you should. No cost glass is a VERY desirable insurance option (should be part of your comprehensive coverage) on the C5...

I installed the HUD in my car without changing the stock windshield. No problems seeing the display at all. Save the money.

someone must know what the difference between the two windshields is. I would be interested if anyone knows.

The HUD is suppose to be more reflective. If you look at them side by side, esp. in the right light you can tell a slight difference. If the $$$ is coming out of your pocket I think you'll be perfectly happy with a regular windshield. If the insurance company is paying, make them buy you the HUD one

My C5 had the windshield replaced before I got it. I strongly suspect that non-hud glass was installed. No complaints.

I was told that the HUD winshield is slightly staggerd.....The wind shield is made up of two pieces of glass with a sheet of film in beetween to bond them (safety glass construction) to keep the HUD display sharp the safety film at the bottom is a little bit thiker at the bottom to align the reflection of the HUD thrue both sheets

this is 100% correct. And that's all the difference there is supposed to be The uneven safety film is to reduce the "paralax" effect.
