I read this in the C6 Z06 section and I got as giddy as a guy looking at a hot girl in a short mini skirt:

If this info is correct, you could get an LS7 swap for your C5 (assuming it all fits correctly) for far less than it costs to have a 427 put in by LPE or any of the major vette tuners.
Start saving those pennies now and drive your vette like you stole it since there's no need to baby it anymore!

Time will tell. Personally, depending on the price, I would take a custom-made C5R-427 over the crate LS-7. Our C5R-427 has been fantastic, plus it has 600 HP & 650 TQ. But if the extra $$$ for a custom engine are a deal breaker, then by all means.

Thanks for the info Alex. I know a 427ci is on the horizon for my C5.
It also depends on how much it will be compared to a custom built 427. I know factory cars are a mix of good and not-so-good components.
I see it like buying a computer. You can go to Dell or HP to buy a plug and play system with customer service/warranty or you can go out and build yourself a water-cooled, faster system with the best components for a little bit more.
But then again, I still have my eye on a twin-turbo system.

I was hoping we could both chip in and one week, I could drop in the LS7, the other week, you can use it and so forth.

no word on pricing yet and I can imagine it's not going to be same or less than ls6 crate. doesn't seem worth the cost when you consider a bolt-on head/cam c5 makes similar power.

So when you call customer service you can talk to Habib and barely understand his broken English?

Right now all there that exists is a part number in the system. There is no price, no warehouse assignment and no stocking info.
When these come out be rest assured we'll be one of the first to have it and the one's with the best price.

Gene, we'll standing by for that news.
If you're able, you might send up the chain that the C5 crowd is inquiring about a C5 retrofix kit for this new engine. Clearly, we'll need everything necessary to retrofit the L7 engine into the C5 to include PCM programming.
No small task, I would assume.

I think it's great.
While I have little doubt a custom engine builder might be able to exceed the HP of the factory engine, I also know that the factory engine is designed to provide 500 hp in a reliable engine that can go over 100k miles without shooting pistons through the hood. It's designed to provide lots of power and lots of reliability too, plus you could get it worked on at any Chevy dealership.
If you're an expert, then it's not your cup of tea but if you're just the average C5 owner, it's got a lot of possibilities.

The added horsepower would be great but how long will the standard
transmission and rear end last? Sounds like a mean machine in the making! Keep us informed!
