Default "One of a kind" Corvette project !

I've been on this forum for a quite a few months now in order to educate myself on the C5/Z06. Having owned an LS1 F-body before and wanting to get back in the game, I thought I would step it up a notch and pick up a Vette. An '02 Z06 to be precises. You have no idea how impatient I am until late April, which is the planned purchase date!

You may be able to relate to the fact that I have become obsessed with Corvettes and frequent this site daily, even while at work. So much so, that I decided to do my university Consumer Behavior course research project on the Corvette's "brand community". If you could please take a few minutes of your day and kindly answer the questions below, it would be very appreciated. I highly encourage you to do it, it might even be fun!

This is for educational purposes only, and the collected information will not be used for any other means. Your screen names & location info will not be recorded! If you feel that some questions are too private to answer, feel free to send the responses via a PM, or via email to: pullmeover@hotmail.com. Here we go:

I have to admit that I thought "You gotta be chitting me!!" when I first read this post. But then I thought..."What the heck it might be fun".

A little background first. I've been driving Vettes for a long time. Long before the internet came along...so some of the stuff that gets posted here, especially in C5 General, is plain hilarious to me.

I generally don't ask questions on this Forum because I'm pretty much able to figure out what I want and where to get it for my Vettes all on my own. I know how to read, search and make up my own mind. I don't make posts asking "What color should I paint my calipers, what exhaust sounds best, what wax to use, what license plate to get, what tires to buy, what battery to buy, how do I get the license plate frame off, how do I clean my windows, do I need a CLB or a CAGS defeat, what are the prettiest floormats, do I need a partition, etc etc etc". I'm a big boy and can figure out those things all by myself.

I generally don't care what anyone thinks about my car or what I've done with it...as long as I like it, that's all that matters. With the exception of putting huge wings and stupid fake-azz badges on these cars you won't find me making posts dissing other folks cars...regardless of them being coupes, convertibles and what not. Vettes are Vettes. Some folks here are just too damn arrogant about what they drive. These are cars...not freakin' temples or rolling shrines...so I always get a laugh out of those that scream about not driving in the rain or the usual eating or drinking in the car

The so-called novelty of driving a Corvette wore off many, many moons ago. The plain and simple fact is, for me, Corvettes are GREAT cars and an excellent bargain in the bang-for-buck department not to mention their long history and heritage in American automotive history.

On those notes I will proceed...
1. What year/color/model(s) do you currently own?
See my sig. Recently sold my near perfect C3 convertible. My white FRC is my eleventh Corvette.

2. At what age did you buy your first Corvette (#)?
Seventeen

3. How old are you now (#)?
Forty-seven

4. Male/female (M/F)?
Male

5. Was the Corvette your dream car as a little kid (Y/N)?
No...I pretty much grew up in Europe as an Air Force brat. Ferrari's were my dream car...and still are. But after riding in a 427/435hp coupe when I was twelve I decided the Corvette could easily fill the gap between dreams and reality.

6. How many other Corvette owners do you speak with regularly (on/off line) (#)?
A bunch...more than twelve or so for sure.

7. Has owning a Corvette impacted your social life (Y/N)?
No. My life does NOT revolve around owning Corvettes.
I don't own one for the "Hey, look at Me!!" crap. I don't need a Corvette to get women and feel sorry, even pity, for those that do. However I do spend time with Clubs because I know other gearheads who own these cars for the same reasons I do. I steer away from superficial shallow owners who are only driving them to impress their neighbors or give themselves a sense of self-worth. I especially despise owners who think they're better than other people just because they drive a Corvette.

8. Has your sense of self-esteem improved since owning the Corvette (Y/N)?
Not hardly. Anyone who needs their self-esteem improved needs a psychiatrist more than a Corvette and I feel sorry for them

9. Do you feel like you’ve reached a goal/milestone (Y/N)?
No...I covered that thirty years ago when I bought my first convertible. The rest have been gravy.

10. How often do you visit this forum (#)?
Almost everyday.

11. Do you feel like you are part of a Corvette community (Y/N)?
In some ways yes...but I prefer to look at myself as a "car guy" not just a Corvette person. There are plenty of other performance cars that I really like and don't waste my time on this Forum badmouthing other makes...not even ricers. I respect other "car guys"...regardless of what they drive.

12. If YES, on a scale of 1-10, how strongly did the aspect of becoming a member of the Corvette community (not only this forum) influence your purchase decision (#)?
Absolute zero...there were no Forums or internet way back when. I only got involved with Clubs years ago after I had already owned a Corvette for a couple of years and even then only so I could autox on abandoned airfields and speed legally.

13. On a scale of 1-10, how strong is the bond among Corvette owners (who may, or may not know each other) (#)?
In the old days when the Wave was alive and well I'd say a 7.5-9. These days with so many driving them as status symbols that don't have a clue I think the "bond" factor has fallen significantly...I would only give it a 2-4 in my region.

Open ended:

1. What is the main reason you bought the Corvette?
To haul-azz in a tight American two-seat sports car.

2. Secondary reason (if applicable)?
I could afford one.

3. Tertiary reason (if applicable)?

4. Why did you join this forum / how did you find it / who told you about it?
To expand my resources for maintaining my C3s. Expanded out to this particular Forum when I started driving C5s too.
5. How has being part of the Corvette community impacted your life?
Very little.
6. What’s the best part of owning a Corvette?
Effortless speed and outstanding handling.

7. The worst part?
Being stereotyped with the idiot owners already described above.

Thank you VERY much for taking the time to complete this. Your help is very valuable!
My pleasure...don't mention it

Short-answer:

1. What year/color/model(s) do you currently own?

2002 Millennium Yellow Coupe

2. At what age did you buy your first Corvette?32

3. How old are you now (#)?Gettin' close to 34

4. Male/female (M/F)?Male

5. Was the Corvette your dream car as a little kid (Y/N)?Nope

6. How many other Corvette owners do you speak with regularly (on/off line) (#)?Several, not sure of exact number but seems to be more and more each day

7. Has owning a Corvette impacted your social life (Y/N)?Absolutely

a. If yes, positively or negatively (+/-)?Very Positive

8. Has your sense of self-esteem improved since owning the Corvette (Y/N)?Maybe to a very small degree. I bought the car because I like it not to "compensate" for other things.

9. Do you feel like you’ve reached a goal/milestone (Y/N)?No, not really. Maybe to a very small degree.

10. How often do you visit this forum (#)?Way, way, way, way too much. At least 50 times during the work day. Probably more. I probably spend 2-3 hours a day on reading crap on this forum. I wonder if there is a 12 step program.

11. Do you feel like you are part of a Corvette community (Y/N)?Absolutely

12. If YES, on a scale of 1-10, how strongly did the aspect of becoming a member of the Corvette community (not only this forum) influence your purchase decision (#)?Maybe 30%

Open ended:

1. What is the main reason you bought the Corvette? Good question, I think because I really really enjoy drag racing and I wanted something "cooler" than my current Mustang. I also wanted to have a car that was somewhat fast to begin with and the C5 caught my eye.

2. Secondary reason (if applicable)?Less tuning than the Mustang but mod bug is worse.

3. Tertiary reason (if applicable)?

4. Why did you join this forum / how did you find it / who told you about it?My best friend bought a C4 and told me about the forum.

5. How has being part of the Corvette community impacted your life?I think the community is great for the most part. There are events planned for everyone from dinners to mod parties. I think it has impacted my life in a postive way. It has been great to meet new friends and it is fun to go to these events. The first ride I coordinated turned out great, about 30 cars. Most of the people that actually show up to these are "fun" people. The Corvette image does get tarnished by some of the ********* that own them. There are those in every group but unfortunately it seems there are more in the Corvette croud. I really hate the people that "think they are better than you." However it provides me amusement when they are around because I can simply laugh at them. Overall is is great.

6. What’s the best part of owning a Corvette? The response to the mods and seeing appreciation on other peoples' faces. Not jealous apprecation but regular appreciation like a thumbs up.

7. The worst part? Nothing really, maybe the so called "Corvette tax" on the parts and the difficulty of the work. Actually I'm not finding it difficult but it is time consuming.
