emissions testing with FI install
Does anyone have any experience with getting an FI setup certified in Oregon? I have been thinking seriously about making the jump to a supercharger of some sort but I'm concerned about passing the emissions inspection. For those of you who are not familiar with Oregons testing program it seems like they just said lets take California's rules and make them stricter. I am surprised that so many cars in CA. have turbos etc. Without a proper CARB # I wold have thought it next to impossible. For those of you who don't have to contend with this nightmare consider yourself very lucky. Do the setups like the Lingenfelter TT come with certification?

Re: emissions testing with FI install (hermit)
lots of guys are getting around the smog test by buying new cars and modding them. In CA. a car doesn't need to be smogged for the first 5 years. After that, money is changing hands behind the scenes in many cases.
As for the LPE Carb number on the 550 TT, it is in the works. Ed & John have indicated it should be in place within a few months. I don't know of any other TT set up that is carb approved or is even close to being carb approved.
Anyone else know about any TT set ups with carb approval in the works?
The only carb approved Super charger that I know of in California is the Vortech supercharger. The ATI is not approved yet other then at 4 pounds of boost on the C-5. Although ATI is optimistic that they will have carb approval for the P series within the next couple of months.
This is why you don't here more people in California bragging about fast cars. If you've got one it might be best to keep it quiet.
Good luck!

I think I'm going to have to get with the emission police and see if I can make sense of the rules. They don't seem to want to make it real easy on you.

I went with the only CA CARB approved SC, the Vortech. Although I have an '03 and can skip inspections for 5 years (as rules "currently" read), the CHP in the Sac area has begun performing "instant inspections" at car "gatherings." Anything non-stock under the hood (including air filters and cold air boxes) without a CARB sticker earns you a cite on the spot and possible tow. I don't need that noise.

It would be interesting to hear how that can be justified legally. How about it, any attorneys out there care to chime in? Illegal search? Sounds like Gestapo tactics.

Roadside smog checks are legal. Bullpoopie, yes. But legal. Much like a sobriety checkpoint, just with cars instead of driver's breath. Isn't CA great!

Maybe CA can solve the deficit by selling smog exemptions   .
That way the state would get the bribes instead of the smog shops and a whole bunch of us would be a lot happier!

For what car? May be coming once the new intercooled version comes out, but I don't believe it is yet. Ask them for the EO number and check the carb database that is listed above.

Re: emissions testing with FI install (blown in n.c.)
I don't really understand why the CARB #s are vehicle specific. It would seem that whether an LS1 was in a camaro or a corvette would not be relevent. I guess that common sense is not a requirement for writing emissions laws. What chaps my butt is that you can make a modification that actually makes the vehicle run cleaner but it still wont pass the inspection.

Re: emissions testing with FI install (hermit)
@ 50k per EO number the state likes to make things real specific. Vorteck has a Carb # for the C-5 & No other supercharger does yet. I called ATI myself several times and the CARB hotline number too. The ATI carb number is for a 4 pounds of boost only kit (not what you want).
Within the next few months the situation should be changing. Several new carb numbers for superchargers and turbo systems are in the approval process at this time.
I am waiting myself. I have had a car that could not pass in the past and I am not taking any chances. Also, If you are concerned about this issue do not rely on anything you read in a post with out double checking with CARB and the manufacturer. Sometimes rumors start to get reported as facts. Not trying to bash anyone just callin it the way I see it.

Re: emissions testing with FI install (Bigben)
I finally got around to visiting the CARB site tonight. Very interesting. After re-reading this thread tonight it finally sunk in to my thick skull... the vortec seems to be a real option. The MTI site says that the magnacharger is not certified but is exempt. Does anyone know what the difference is? Anyway things are looking up.
