Default Let’s talk about lifters

Hello gentlemen, I recently developed a louder than normal tick which sounds a lot to me like a noisy lifter. I replaced them (Lunati) when I did the HCI on the car about 25k miles ago.
I feel like the valve springs are due as well even though Lingenfelter just checked them recently. May as do it while I’m in there type of thing.
Car has ETP 215’s, mild cam and a ECS 1500 kit. I was thinking of going with Johnson link bars (short travel??) as they are local and from my research seem pretty reliable. I have stock rockers with a trunion upgrade. Obviously the pushrods are going to need to be changed I guess my question is does this look like a reliable set up? Also short travel lifters, I’ve never heard of them until recently. Anyone here use em or have good/bad to report?
Thanks!

I use the Johnson link bar short travels in my turbo 370. No issues, no noise, good lifters

Thanks Joey appreciate the feedback. So the ST2116LSR’s look like the part number I would need. Last time I checked I believe they were $600 now it looks like they’re $780 lol. Covid price bump. Ah well
*edit* looks like the race version is $780. Not sure I need or want those ones

I believe these are the same lifters that Bret just spec'd for me on my high RPM LS7 build. I'll have to ask him to give me the part number of the specific set he sold me but these sound like them.

I got Johnson lifters from Brett. The expensive ones with special oiling feature he couldn't get because production was shut down due to covid. Unless things have changed I was told they wouldn't be available till the endo of year or beginning of next.

Yeah it looks like there sold out most places. I see one place that says they’re in stock. This will likely turn into a winter project as I’m going to send the heads to Mast to have them checked and the springs swapped out. My car isn’t a high dollar build, Thompson 346 with forged rods and pistons/stock crank. My cam is relatively small as well so these are likely a little overkill.

What kind of power you plan on making? I ran good old LS7 lifters with no problems at 635whp for a long time. Im going johnson link bar now for 1k hp.

First time I've searched the part number and I can't find any info on these. I just trust Brett knows what he's talking about lol.

I wish I could tell ya brother. Snapped the belt at 5200 rpm last time on the dyno and it made 600 hp and just shy of 600 tq. Maybe a little over 7 at 6500 or so I would hazard to guess. I got lots to do before I try again just to make sure it’s not a complete fail next time. I’ve been watching ur build. Gonna be crazy. Can’t wait to see ur results
Those look pretty btw. I pay close to attention to Bretts posts. Appreciate insight of everyone here.

Hey thanks for the heads up. I appreciate it. I think this is going to happen over the winter so I’m not in a huge rush.

I looked into the johnson and morrel link bar lifters and ended up going with johnson on the advice of some LS racers and researching on yellow bullet
they seem to be a bit better than the morrel (*which are also very good) and at a similar price

the johnson lifters are very high quality. Above 7k I don't think I'd trust the plastic lifter trays so I really like the link bars

Thanks for chiming in. I’m going to go ahead and order a set of these.

Not that it hasn't been said but here's another vote for the 2116LSR's. I have them in my twin turbo setup and they're whisper quiet. Came highly recommend by Mamo when I was doing his top end setup on my motor.
