I just talked to Andy and my Vortech will be here in Friday.

Now I am trying to decide if I want to go ahead and swap the cam out since I'll have everything sorta apart anyhow. Decisions, decisions...

Update on install. I spent most of Saturday and half of Sunday installing.

The power steering pulley needs to be pulled. The puller I purchased from Pep Boys is ripping up pulley. I will have to get better puller or have a machine shop pull it. I will call Andy tomorrow for help.

As I thought the steering rack and harmonic balancer pinning hardest part so far (besides explaining to wife why $50K car is not able to be driven and up on jack stands in garage). The steering rack should be pulled out. The Magnacharger instructions say pull it out, the Vortech instructions say pull it up out the way.
Once able to get to the balancer the bolt was a real pain. I choose not to pull starter, as I did not have the GM flywheel tool. I first tried to block the balancer against the oil pan then use a breaker bar but was afraid to break pan. I then tried my impact wrench, basic cheap unit. No go. After a couple of hours of frustration I called Andy and he said yes pain in the A, “Get a bigger better gun”. I went to local Lowes and purchased $175 gun. Ran my compressor up to 145 lbs and after several more tries the SOAB came loose.

Next problem was the oil return line. The kit comes with a 90 D male female pipefitting that goes into the pan after drilling and installing a 3/8 pipe into the pan. Problem is you cannot spin the 90 into the pipe because the glass leaf spring is in the way. Solved by using 2 45 d fittings instead of the 90. Can’t see hole to drill use mirror.

When installing the alternator and brackets read very carefully. Make sure to grind the spot on the tension pulley. You need to look at the top of the picture to see where to grind. The smooth pulley that comes with the kit comes assembled with a bolt, take it off and use the stock bolt. If you read instructions a couple of times you will understand.

I am done with the wiring and install of the alternator. So far OK instructions but just like my Transgo install very time consuming first time. I will post more later. I hope I am not being too wordy. If so let me know and I will tone down.

Well, so far my installation isn't going as planned. I have not gotten past first step which is to inventory the kit. I am missing serveral parts and have a damaged aftercooler pump.

The kit uses a spacer on the oil pressure sender casting which puts it about 1/16"-1/8" from my FLP headers so it looks like I'll be ditching those.

I am not too happy with Vortech's quality control right now...

Steve'01,

Good stuff. Where is the oil supply line run from? Where the oil temp sensor is mounted above the oil filter?

The oil supply line runs from a small adapter that sandwiches in at oil presure sender. No big deal. I have not done any more install, got burnt out. I want to enjoy this. I will start again Friday night, then hopefully finish install Saturday. I will then do gauges Sunday, pillar mounted boost and fuel presure. I think I am on the downhill run. I will have programing done Monday if all goes well. :D
