Default Effective Street Tire / Contact Patch

Thinking ahead for when the car hits the roads again in the spring with the new SC setup.

For folks attaining the 550 to 600 rwhp range, what are you seeing work for traction?

I'm curious if there are any tires in the 285 or 295 widths which are getting it done. Reason for that is because if there are, then I'll run a squared setup. If not, then I'll probably still run 285 front but 305 or 315 rear.

Tires I have in mind right now: R888, 595RS-R, NT05(R) (and possibly a second set of wheels/tires for burnouts.... sumi htrz III)

that's a mannerly power range, especially with the gradual S/C power (assuming not a roots blower), most radials will handle that. how wide are you wheels? I've had luck with the Toyos TQ, some compound as the R888, NT05Rs is also proven.

550rwhp running 305/35/19 Nitto NTO5r. Work great for me on street and strip. Running 18's up front(NTO5) and 19's rear(NTO5r).

Currently running 275/40/18 Sumi Z III up front with 305/35/19 NTO5R rears.

I do like the Nt05 front and Nt05R rear combo for looks.

I'm looking to stick to the C5 Z06 wheels. I have a used factory set. I also have a set of wagon wheels. But I'd be using an all new set of C5Z rears on all four corners. I have a 99 with just tc, no ah, so there is no conflict in changing the rake.

I'm thinking the R888 makes sense as a tire with traction but also with good sidewalls for handling. But if I can get a set of Sumi htrz IIIs to function safely for roll starts, that'd be a lot smaller hit to the wallet and a lot more fun to burn off.

Not sure if it affects recommendations, but I have full C5 Z suspension and bilstein shocks. I have a pfadt trans mount and will be ordering the ecs bracket.

I know its not a major concern in most cases here, but what kind of lifespan can you get out of R888s? I mean, if you aren't doing lots of burnouts. I'd like at least 15,000 miles if I can get it.

305/35/19 NTO5R rears here. They work great at 650-700rwhp. You won't dead hook, but they are much better than regular street tires.

Been doing some reading around forums and tire sites. Man... opinions and a55holes, right? Hard to pick reliable info from the mess.

Vredstein Sessenta has come up as a possibility, but they are size limited to 295-35-18.

R888 and NT01 sound like what I'm seeking for highway driving.

R888 looks to be a good traction tire. Without a local buddy to compare against, I'm concerned over the road noise aspect. I've driven on spec tires before and had them be audible over engine/exhaust like they were on a mudder truck. Leery of that. But not sure if the commenters have good experience, or just Sunday drivers annoyed that they have to turn up the radio to hear NPR.

if you're running C5Z wheels, 285s shouldnt be an option. pick the tire height you want. you can go 295-315. i run 315/35/18 Toyo Proxxes TQ, the R888 should be the same compound with a stiffer sidewall.

What do you run on the fronts?

Anyone had experience with the Sumi HTRZ IIIs? They only go up to 295/30/18. Viable tire or no?

I have sumis in 315 30 17 on my c4 zr1 as a low buck tire but I'd go with the $r888

these tires make using that hard earned hp more worth while

the sumis are just a bang for the buck crooze or burn out tire

you get what you pay for here don't skimp on tires or brakes
