Will a 19" or 20" M/T drag radial work on my setup???
We just bumped up the power in my C5Z to 670 whp and now traction is gone. I'm running on 2 year old 315/30-20 Toyo R888 tires that held up well to 560 it was putting down previously. Even in 3rd on the freeway it's sketchy when you hammer on it.
The setup is just your basic V-3 SI with a 3.4 pulley and a meth kit with a 4.10 gear set in back. I'm really not looking to by a full set of wheels and tires, if I can avoid it.
Do you guys think that the new Mickey ET Street S/S in 305/35-20 or 305/35-19 would get the job done? I'm running a 19/20 stagger setup so I could get away with buying a pair of wheels if need be. But I don't see any kind of advantage for the 19" wheel other than fitment since the sidewall would be the same height as the 20" and the 20" having the height advantage.

I don't see them working on that much power. Just not enough side wall. Why not a 16 inch rear rim, you will need more side wall for sure.

Robert, I'm not looking to do a dedicated drag tire setup. I will only take the car to the track maybe a couple of times a year.
I would consider running C5Z 17 inchers on all 4 corners if I could find a set reasonably.
I guess I'm looking more at a compromised set. Something that works a lot better on the street and give decent performance at the track.

Run the 19's. They will work fine at that power level. But change your gears back to stock. 4.10's are for an NA road course car. With stock gears on those 19's, you should be able to cut consistant 1.6 60ft's with a clutch slip. I'm on 345 nittos and at 830rwhp strait from a 900 mile drive buying the car I went to the track and cut 1.7's without any effort since I was on no sleep with a new car and didn't want to risk breaking. I'm probably making 100rwhp more now and I'm confident I could possibly go high 1.6's, but will run my trusty 17's when I start racing again.

my 305/35/19 nt05r's do pretty dang good on the street with a little over 700rw, haven't really had the car at the track much so can't comment on that

I understand what you are saying and trying to do with it. But more side wall per say more hook up..

Thanks for all of the replies and advice guys!
Robert, I think I'm going to try and find out what the true height of the twenty is. If I can stuff it in the wheel well I'm going to give it a shot.
Since the 18, 19 & 20 have the same tread width and aspect ratio I won't be gaining any sidewall height. But the taller tie will have a longer contact patch and won't be as easy to spin.
I do hear what you're saying and realize that I'm really compromising by not getting a taller sidewall. I'll just have to see what happens and go from there.

I dont have dyno numbers but my car is ported 317 heads, cam, si trim 3.4, meth and the 305 19 Mickeys work well. Sometimes hooks 1st WOT depends on temperature outside and surface. Just about always dead hooks 2nd.

That's some more solid feedback, thanks again everybody!
I've decided to go with the new Mickey Thompson Drag Radial S/S in 305/35-20 if I can get them in time for the event I'm attending at the end of May . If not, hopefully the 19" version of that will be available at that time.

Your doing your car a disservice by having those 4.10s out back. With a blower and that power, 3.42s are the sweet spot. I made the exact same power as you, with a MT Street II out back on 18s (305/35/18s), my car dead hooked in 2nd gear at 40mph. Anything on close to my power level was looking at tail lights because of the traction advantage.
Best of luck!
