Default WOT shift

How much "lead" are you A4 guys having to give to get your trans to shift where you want it??
I'm tryng to shift at 6600, and look to be easily hitting the mph, but Im slamming into the rev limiter(6950) every time!!
I've tried lowering the rpm to 6500, and easing down on the speed, but it's still hitting. It revvs SO FAST, I wondered if I needed more lead time

Lower down to 6k & see if it holds before rev limiter, could be refresh time

NO; I didn't log, but went to dinner and "played" on the way home, and it hit the limiter when I floored it at 60, it down shifted to 2nd, and hit the limiter before shifting.

Not sure what that means, but if it implies a bad trans, it could be, but it's a 1 1/2 year old stage 4 (or 5) RPM trans. It pulls CRAZY hard up to hitting the limiter.
I lowered the shift point to 6100 and dropped the MPH, so I will see if I can get it to shift there.

I put it in 3, not D (per RPM) when I am going to play. When I am cruising around 60 in 3rd and floor it, it down shifts to 2nd, and revs (and moves) VERY fast, and hits the rev limiter so I get out of it.
I have moved it back down to 6100 and lowered the speed settings (left the rev limiter at 6950) and will see what it does tomorrow. If it shifts, I will start logging to see what's going on and try to ease it back up. If it doesn't, Ill keep asking for help

I have mine at a set point of 6200 rpms, this nets me 6500-6650 rpm shifts. This is with a PCS controller. I could only imagine the stock ECU having even more of a delay.. Wouldn't surprise me a bit if you had it set at 5900 to get 6500 shifts..

3-2 down shifts are ok, just don't let it 4-2 shift or 3-1 shift.

I do 3-2, 65 mph highway bombs all the time... RPM Trans will take it.

And Jay is right on AAA... LOL

WOW; That's what I was wondering. It revs SO FAST, that I didn't know if I should give it extra lead time on mph OR rpm to hit the shift. I know that in 1st, with all the wheel spin, that it might not hit the mph. I have a 3500 stall and a 3.1 pulley, which makes for things happing pretty quick

No auto trans likes to shift if the tires are spinning so if that is how you are gauging your shift points, youre doing it wrong... Don't try to tune the shift parameters with wheel spin...

You will have to play with mph/rpm settings to get it right... Don't keep crashing it into the rev limiter though or you'll be putting head gaskets in it to...

That's not how I am setting them. I basically took my old 6100 #s and added about 3mph and set the rpm higher and was going to work into it. Have not had a chance because I can't get a good log.

NEW INFO: I set the rpm at 6100 and TRIED to log this morning. Same thing. BUT...I had noticed before that every time I hit the limiter, it had stopped scanning. I figured it was a coincidence because maybe the acceleration had jarred it sitting in the seat. When I logged this morning, same thing, rev limiter, stop scanning. I just unplugged it and headed home (hard/mad) and I THINK it might have shifted.. I say that because the reserve fuel light popped up on the display and distracted me.
When I tried it at dinner last night it didn't shift properly, but I still had the data link hooked up.
Is it possible there is a connection?? I read a post while searching that referred to that being an issue, but didn't think about it until now.
Need to get more fuel so I can try, but wont have a clue where my shifts are without logging...

If you're concerned with it being a comms issue and the OBD2, put a go pro facing the gauge cluster as a impromptu logger. That way you can watch it at any playback speed or frame by frame if necessary.

That's a good idea. After I get some more fuel, I'll test to see if it shifts. I went back and re-read the post from before, and the ground on the OBD port was causing eh issue. He fixed it (not sure how) and the car logged and shifted properly

on the 1-2 shift, you might have to lower it down to something lower far lower than you need. Lower it down to 3k and work your way back up, but as ajrothm said, you need traction to do it right. I like to put a bigger spread between the upshift and downshift numbers than you have in your tune.

I set the spread based on a post I had seen earlier by one of the forums tuners.
What spread do you recommend?
