Default my diy single remote mount turbo build

here are some pictures of my in progress diy turbo setup.
the platform

i decided to go the route of remote mounting since iv had great success remote mounting a gto. first thing to do was cut out that useless trunk section. Iv created a removable inspection plate to close it out again and make the trunk floor flat. also welded in some support structure to support the weight of the turbo

downpipe and t4 flange fabbed up ignore the unevenness lol. that will be corrected before tips get welded on.

finished wastegate and downpipe integration
working out ways to mount my intercoolers.

to straighten them out i will have to remove some material from the crash bar but it will be minimal
other than that they fit fairly well

boost gauge and wideband wired in using a custom gauge mount I made from carbon fiber because im not a big fan of a-pillar gauges

all i have left to do is "Y" the exhaust together and run the charge piping underneath and run the oil lines to the scavange pump. hopefully ill be able to do it in the week or two

Looks great! What turbo are you running? What wastegate? What are your power goals? Looking to do something very similar on my car as well! That intercooler setup is unique, haven't seen one like it before. Do you think you'll see a greater pressure drop running through two intercoolers?

pressure drop should be minimal cuz they are pretty small also ill be running low boost for a while anyway. its a garret gt45 and a sts brand tial wastegate. I may have to add a second if i start to get boost creep. and ill be happy around 500 rwhp. the turbo is capable of much more but I dont have a built engine at the moment

Nice work!
What size turbo is that? Looks pretty big. What are your power goals? What are you doing for fuel system support? Cant wait to see the final result.

Lol that's my friend taking a nap lol. I'd be happy with 500hp. Wastegate is set for 4psi turbo is 70 mm if I remember right. So far stock fuel system but I plan on getting deca 60's before it runs

Very cool concept, I do think however that is a bad way to run an intercooler setup.

Better off splitting off into separate coolers, then Y'ing together before TB. Kinda like an older procharger C5 twin IC setup...if that paints a better picture,.

I know you mentioned you weren't worried about it but,..you'd be surprised how much drop you can get, especially with a rear mount setup

Also...Just some recommendations...just to help out. By no means talking smack...just trying to lend a helping hand. The entry to the WG(which is critical for control) isn't to exact...kinda have a bend in there you don't really need, or want. Then the quick dump off into the DP is just too close to the turbine...ideally, you want about 18 inches away from a turbo..obviously, not all of our setups can allow for the but, you want it further away if at all possible.

If better description needed...lemme know.

Yes, bump for Pics.

I have a Vortech I am trying to sell that went to my GTO, after that, I plan to do a rear mount turbo setup on my C5. The more info & Pics, the better.

Out of curiosity, I hear that putting on a rear mounted turbo, you won't need the axle back mufflers at all - Would there be enough room & air flow to have a mid-sized Intercooler at the back? Lots of guys in the MR2 community have Trunk mounted IC's. Possibly put a fan on it if there wasn't enough air flow too.

Like mount them on each side where the huge *** mufflers went to and install a fan to each one? You don't think the charge would cool better with the ICs up front?

Pics of charge tubing please. Would be awesome if someone would put together a plumbing & mounting kit. Maybe with the option of one of those Oil-less turbo's.

I'm figuring if the mufflers aren't needed, the extra room would make it easy for an intercooler... notice I didn't say AIR-to-AIR necessarily, a liquid IC would be perfect back there, since you would have an easier time positioning the pump & reservoir. Hell, if both mufflers are gone, you could mount a small AIR-to-AIR with fan & also a liquid one. lol.

But importantly - I also hear that the charge temps are much less b/c of the long plumbing. Curious how large of an intercooler is even needed in the first place when going low boost... or how much heat soak is a factor.

As soon as I get rid of my Vortech, I will be ***** to the wall on this. Already have my fuel system & HPtuners.

Side note : If the mufflers are removed from the Axle back, then the waste gate wouldn't be muffled either... wonder how ridiculous that would sound.
