Methanol Consumption Around Town
Guys, I just upgraded my M6 2003 Z with a nasty Comp Cam package, A&A blower @ 9.5 lbs., ARH longtubes, McLeod twin-disc clutch, 160-degree t-stat, and an AIS dual-nozzle meth injection system. This gave me 650whp and 532 torque. Needless to say, it's a blast to drive.
My question is about meth consumption. The AIS reservoir holds three gallons of 30/70 meth/water washer fluid. I made a little wooden dip stick to check the reservoir level after every drive. The system is set to pump meth whenever my blower goes above 4.5 lbs. of boost. Two LEDs signal low meth level (red) and when meth is being pumped (green). They are installed kind of out of the way, so I really haven't seen the green one illuminating.
A typical drive for me includes stop-and-go city driving and some suburban/country stretches where I can go WOT until I get scared. I cover maybe 35-50 miles each time I go out with maybe one or two serious WOTs. Since I'm a law abiding citizen, I don't exceed the speed limit on the Interstate.
Anyway, the level of my meth doesn't seem to be going down. If it is, it must be dropping very slowly. Is my driving style such that I'm not calling on the system to deliver much meth? How much meth do you guys go through and what are your driving styles?
I'd like to get an idea of what kind of driving drains the meth. The system was installed a week ago and I've been driving it almost every day since then.
Thanks for the help.
Dave

Dave sounds like it is working good 3 gallons will last you for some time in the car. Just keep a one on it for any leaks on any plastic parts. May go bad after about 3 yrs are so. I have in my meth in my windshield washer, plus I drive the car ever day will last a good month unless I go racing in the car. Robert

Thanks for the info, Robert. I have stainless lines on my meth unit. They should prevent leaks, but I'll keep an eye on things in general. Sounds like you have a cool setup. My unit is in the trunk.

I just had to replace a rubber but was a hard washer in my tank. It went bad and started linking. This meth stuff is really bad on everything. I would look at having the motor unit overhauled after 2 good years being in the car. Robert

Meth use
I just put a snow system in my 02 Z06 and it uses the windshield washer reservoir. I just drove it to have it dyno'd about 35 miles away and ran it I guess about 8 pulls on the dyno and drove it all the way back home and it used about a quart. Just an estimate but pretty close. I have it set to start at 2.0 lbs boost and full spray at 5.0 lbs boost.
Along with the meth I had to install 80 LB injectors and my RWHP went from 600 RWHP to 698RWHP. I was very surprised and happy

Shooting pure Meth can raise your Octane to Approx. 103 Octane!
But the major advantage is the cooling of the Intake Charge (IAT Temps and Cylinder Temps-up to 250* per cylinder)
Thanks,Matt

Good point, Matt. I like meth because it provides a safety cushion for those of us with stock bottom ends.
