Default Who has best budget replacement for blown and blown up ls1

Looking for a good short block for base a&a kit and maybe a small cam. I want to try to reuse intake and rework heads. Or does it make sense to get a long block? Anyone know a reliable solution, looking to stay around 500 to 600 hp. Can this be done for $6000 to $7000? Car is 2001 vert, 50,xxx miles 342 gears, astro van stall, corsa extreme with x pipe. Has a base tune now but will need tune , messed it up before I could get dyno tune.
Thanks for any advise
Adam

Use your factory block and crank and get forged rods and pistons. Good to go for about 3500+- put together

Not if you buy it from Kyle at Thompson Motorsports
Mine is sitting in the shop waiting for the last few misc pieces to come in, and it was a LOT cheaper than that.

You can get a whole new shortblock from LPE, LME, or Texas Speed for about $3500-3700.

This is what I would do if I was going with a centrifugal blower. I bet it can be done for less than 3500 even. Probably closer to 2500. Lots of people have used the factory crank in 1000 hp builds. Pretty sure corvette8189 did it also.

Stock engine and add a cam if you want the sound. You can make 600rwhp with a stock ls6 AandA kit and shorty headers. If you want more power later on you could add rods and pistons.

I went with the LS1( 5.3 alum. bored to 3.9x) with forged Diamond pistons (10.5) scat Ibeams, arp2000 rod bolts and new crank.
Going for around 800rwhp at 13-15lbs.
He had he best price by far of anyone. (Seems like a nice guy too, especially compared to a couple of smart-butts I spoke with )

Not sure my short block is good? Something is locking it up after a few minutes of running. (See post in tech) Planning for the worst. Been at shop for three weeks. I don't have the tools or expertise to pull motor and do work myself. I could have them pull motor and I could rebuild and they put back in. This shop only likes gm crate motors ! $$$. Is it realistic to pay a shop that wants to rebuild it for under $6000.00 in and out with appropriate head work small cam and reinstalling sc, with tune? In central Florida.

$6000 for the work you described sounds reasonable depending on the parts and port work. Just find out what parts they are using and research them.

I have not priced work yet, that was a guess from what I have seen here, and past experience. I need to find a shop in central Florida that wants to do it, current shop could take a while and they can't tune. How much if I need a short block? What is reasonable? Want reliable 600 hp . Need to save for transmission as that will go next.
Thanks ..

If all they want to use is a GM crate engine, find a new shop. Definately alot better options than another factory engine.

I called him today! Excellent conversation!
I have a quote from him in my email as we speak, good price for short block with cam installed, oil pump timing chain, lifters, etc. built for more than I plan on.

Will be doing this soon.

Thanks for all the input,
Now time to figure out what to do about heads. Any suggestions?

For that power level I'd suggest 243's that's really all you need. 241's would work too even
