Easy fix put cradle/cradles back im lol! But it is extra work. GL!
Your right. That is the option that I am aware of,...which sucks. Labor induced and time consuming. basically, your taking steps that you didn't HAVE to take. I have taken apart more Corvettes then I can remember, and I can tell you, putting everything back together in a fashion that will work, and roll, where you can move it by yourself, is next to a big pain in the a$$ that I never wanted to deal with as a technician, not to mention, next to impossible(not steering gear-no rear axles, things don't work so easily).
Just curious if anyone has had this issue, and what they have done about it. Do you just leave it in your garage, and bust out the buckets and wash rags to clean it? Do you leave it on the lift and work on your OTHER lift while you wait on the parts?
Just would like to know.
Basically, we have a family fabrication shop, and we came up with something that really works, works really well, it's super easy,...and well, like I said, it works.
If it's something that people are interested in, I will get it over to a vendor(s), and you guys can have at it.
All aluminum, all USA, all made in the USA.
If there is a real interest in this,...(should be for anyone that works on they're car in they're own garage(extensive builds, not air box's) or more then one car at a time),...I will make more then what we are planning for already.
We're friends with a few premier performance shops in SoFla,...invited a couple to our private garage...and as soon as they saw the pieces,...they pretty much wanted the prototype set right off the car's. Anyways, if anyone is truly interested, I would like to gauge some interest here, and see what is realistic, and what isn't.
f-body, C5-C6-GTO-CTS-V/G8 are what we have in mind since we have one of those to mock up off of(already have for the most part).
At home I just use the other lift. At work we have dollies that go under the frame rails. They have 4 large casters. Very easy to use and use them a lot for body shop frame replacements. Send the body to the repair department and work on transferring all the suspension to the new frame.
Do it all the time.. takes me all of about 1 hr to pull the drivetrain..take it off and put the cradle back in.. piece of cake.. after the first 5 times or so.. Ill take a 4 post over a two post anyday... main reason.. i can roll my lift around anywhere i want to..

I am the opposite, I would much rather use a two post lift, Even if only doing an oil change. Maybe that will change the older I get, Not able to set the lift legs as easy.

Like gotjuice said put four (four wheel dollies) under car that might be your best bet.
hahaha that's jerry... TTzo6 or wherever he calls himself these days and his brother... and my cousin and brother.. we we putting in a t60606 and rear end for another member who at the time was working off shore a lot and had a kid on the way.. so we figured we would knock it out while he was gone..
let me also say.. 2 post are nice... for a 60 by 80 shop... but for most home shops, post is a great way to go since you can move it around whenever you want.
We basically came up with a Dollie system that works well, is strong, light, and attaches easy as well as it DE-attaches from the vehicle. I have taken apart many vettes, I personally don't care to do more work then I have to,..something like what we made, I think will eliminate HAVING to put the drivetrain back together, again, if you wanna move the vehicle.
If you have a lift, ad you don't mind tieing it up, this isn't for you.
If you have a lift, and need to roll the ar outside, for any reason, cleaning, whatever, this is for you.
If you own a shop, and do not want to tie up your lifts with a car waiting on parts,..or ou need to move it to another part of the shop, or perhaps another lift, this is for you.
It's another purpose built tool, made directly for THAT platform. We built it with heavy duty casters, and as a result, I can move the car around the shop really easily, by myself.
