Looking at your pic's, I see the failure occurred right thru the oil hole that is drilled in the shaft to lube the bushing.
When you replace the shaft make sure the oil hole has a chamfer on it this will reduce the chances of it breaking again in the same location.

Pretty common failure.... We see it more on heavy trucks. The problem with the factory shafts is, when they break they splinter and are still turning causing the shaft to grow in length.... breaking the back of the transmission case. The aftermarket 300M shafts are a nice upgrade (our Level 6's have the upgraded shafts). This was not one of our units, but if we can help in any way give us a call.

No, I'm not sure by the pics (small pic on phone) ... please lay the shaft out, both pieces and I will confirm either way for you. I have never seen a Corvette break an aftermarket shaft but then again not all shafts are created equal.
