FML- Need everyones input- LOUD knocking
So finally drove the car today after a month long hiatus. Got into boost for a little spirited 3-4 punch. All was fine- pulled into my parents driveway and parked the car.
Started the car to move it so we could go to lunch- all was normal.
Started the car a couple of hours later to go back home and there was an insane loud knocking sound coming from the engine.
Pulled the drivers side valve cover- No visible damage. Im running comp 921s. The rocker arms werent messy at all.
Put it all back together- my buddy came over with a stethescope. Started the car again- idle is fine. Oil pressure is at 50ish psi but he said that the knocking is definitely coming from the bottom end.
So please give me some ideas so i can know how bad im gonna hurt lol.

If it's the bottom end bearings, it could be as simple as changing out bearings, but no way I would get into the bottom without replacing the pistons, rings and rods while you're in there.

Yeah thats what im thinking. I just need to figure out where to have it taken to so they can break it down and see what im dealing with. If it was a bearing though- wouldn't the oil psi be low and idle suffer?

Keep the running to a minimum obviously.. Shouldn't be too bad to fix if you can do it yourself.. And have the time

Pull the filter first. Unless no matter what you're going to freshen the engine. I'd do the former.

Yeah im trying to kind of narrow it down because its at my parents house. They have no tools here other than a craftsman set. So im limited on what i can do.
I dont want to have it towed to my house then realize its more than i can handle and have it towed to another shop.

it does not sound like a spun bearing, oil presure would drop quickly, does it only do it when the engine gets warm? have you done any work to the motor lately, header work?, etc ?

Any blow by?
Very poissible a ring could of been launched, that is what happened to my #7 when it was cold and a stock bottom end
Best thing is to pull it and forge the bottom end
Thanks,Matt

Yeah how much could I get away with cost wise- assuming the crank is still good- forged pistons, rods and all bearings seals etc.

You can turn the crank if necessary. Figure a $1000 a pop for rods and pistons. You could pay more or less. Do not chimp on the rings. Replace your valves, springs and lifters. Cometic gasket. Best bearings.
