^^^ alternator was shot, wouldn't crank out enough voltage at the top end

Yep, alternator took at shat apparently.

Long story short, I swapped my 40k mile alt with my father's 80k mile alt to diagnose a squeaky pulley on his car. Never bothered swapping them back until I had the issue.
