HELP, threw a connecting rod through oil pan
I installed a Whipple Twin Screw Supercharger on top of my engine. After the initial start-up and after running for about 30 seconds, it started to "knock". I shut it off and saw oil running from underneath the car, dripping from the oil filter. I took the filter off and discovered that a connecting rod had banged a hole through the oil pan and had broken the metal that makes the base that the oil filter screws to. What happened? How expensive to fix? Will it happen again?

If you just worked on the top end of the engine, it sounds like it injested something..... ie: bolt, nut, etc... You really need to tear it down to better determine the costs to repair. Terrible news, best of luck on your repair.

Well cost depends on if you can do the work yourself or have to pay out. By the sounds of
things it sounds like you at bare minimum need a short block. Which is around 5000 for a forged one. Or Scoggin dickey has the LS6's on sale I think it was around 3400 for long block. Depends on amount of money you can spend. The bad news is if a part went threw your motor it may of damaged your whipple and it may be junk also. Best of luck.

Well you ****ed up the install.
Cost to fix? Around 5 grand for a built shortblock
Add in the extra cost to have a reputable shop install.
Will it happen again? Not if someone who knows what they are doing, does the rest of the work.

Your problem could have been caused by a number of issues including yourself (installer error). Kind of tough to diagnose cause without some more info. You could have had a leaky injector that caused a partial hydro lock or it just could have been the motors time.
The older 97 - 2000 LS1 motors had weaker rod bolts. How many miles and year of the car ?
You're looking at quite a bill if you can you can do the motor yourself and twice as bad if some other shop has to do it for ya.
Probably somewhere in the $5 - $10K range.

I think its pretty clear that the installer has caused this.
Although he doesnt give specifics of work carried out prioer to the fitment of the blower.
But con-rods dont just fail on an engine that has been started and run for 30seconds.

To op I'm sorry your having issues.
(1) build iron block stroker from reputable engine builder. Expect that to be about 4500 or so for a short block then whatever you want to spend on heads.
(2) let shop do the engine R&R
(3) Enjoy new build.

Just put a new battery in my wife's 87. Drove three miles through town and as we were getting on the freeway, 2000 RPM and light throttle, heard a loud bang and the car rolled to the left. Number four rod had broken just above the big end. The big end of the rod jammed between the block and the crank and cracked through the side of the block into the water passage. The big end of the connecting rod still spins freely on the crank and the small end is free on the wrist pin. The engine continued to run but sounded like a load of big rocks in a cement mixer.
