True, but who cares. This only happened a few weeks ago and only today did I pull the pan. My 63 is 51 years old but some of us might be interested in things that happen to old iron. My comment was about connecting rods breaking for no apparent reason. Those of us who work on engines might be interested. I am hoping my 94 doesn't have the same weakness.

The only thing I could think that would happened while just idling is water has gotten into the cylinder and cause hydro-lock -

That is the only thing that would not allow a piston rod to achieve its full stroke and come out of the pan while idling!

Have you checked the cylinder for coolant fluid as well? I know it will e somewhat difficult but check it out.

Thanks,Matt

I saw last post on this was from 5/2013. So that is what I was looking at last few post. Not really when it started.

Wow! That sucks. Rods usually break from the force at high rpm. Unless you had a bearing spin but that would have knocked for a while and you would have noticed very low oil pressure. I would agree with the others and think something landing on top of your piston. Which if you have OEM pistons would have shattered it and then your rod would be bouncing off the cylinder wall until it knocked a hole in it. The only other would be somehow you got a leak in the inter-cooler under the blower and hydro-locked a cylinder. So you should do a pressure check on your inter-cooler in the manifold.
You will defiantly need a short block. And probably a new head or heads. Hopefully your SC is not hurt. Price all depends on what you do. Cheapest, find a used motor. Most expensive would be a large cubic inch forged stroker motor. Its not going to be cheap. Sorry.

Hydro lock is possible. However three miles earlier everything looked good. The rod is not bent, just broken in half. Don't know yet if the aluminum heads are okay. Car has 67,000 miles on it. Rod broke at 2000 RPM, partial throttle. It's at least short block time.
