Default DTE and Motive.......FYI

I recently found out Motive is the ONLY aftermarket differential gear maker for C5's.

I bought a set of 3.90's and had them put in by a very good local GM technician. I soon had gear whine under load. After a conversation with the Motive engineer that is responsible for the gear design and manufacturing I discovered that .004 is the backlash for GM spec gears but .008-.010 is proper for the Motive 3.90's. He said this will cause whine if set up at .004

The MOTIVE ENGINEER recommended I take them to DTE for analysis and re-fit or replacement. He seems to have a lot of faith in them.........So early March I'm off to DTE.

Let this be a warning to all that don't want to drop the drive train twice

Randy

Randy,
We do a LOT of business with Motive Gear/Midwest Truck and we work with them on a number of other things that betters both companies overall.

I've spoken to MG Engineering about your situation and they have sent us another 3.90 gear set for us to correctly install into your differential and we'll provide them with the inspection data they require once we see the previously assembled differential from elseware first-hand.

Just to put your mind at ease...we'll build your new differential just like any other successful differential we've built over the years and I *think* your diff. will be number 1,823 production differentials built since 2002, not counting racing and custom units. All good!

We'll see you Friday and thank you for your business. If you have any further questions or comments, please call either myself or Jenny and we'll take care of you.

Great to see people like this on here. Unlike some vendors on here in not thinking doing the correct thing is the right thing to do.

Oh no that might have been one to many agrees, oh well.

I had to read this three times to make sure I wasn't missing the normal...It's a performance part and you will have to pay out your A** to have us do it because we are the only ones in the world that can do it correctly...line...followed by a bring your AMEX platinum.

Way to go MOTIVE ENGINEER and DTE. That is stand up service for sure.

Default Finished on time and on budget???????

Picked up my car Sat night and all is perfect.

Can't wait for 350 mile break in to be over and the pavement to warm up so I can enjoy it on a closed course

Thanks to Phil for meeting me on a Sat night at his shop for pickup. I was driving by on my way back from a trip and couldn't control my p/u time....

Thanks and CONGRATS to Jenny. You know why...........
