Any one tried Torco octane boost?
My understanging is that you can increase 91 octane pump gas to 95, 102 or 105 octane by adding differing amounts of this "concentrate."
They claim it is an "accelerator" that will transform the make up of premium pump gas to closely resemble the race gas they also produce. They claim it does so by lowering the "end-burn-tempeture" which will make the fuel burn more complete and release more power (more efficiency).
The biggest issue is price. To riase one tank-full from 91 to 95 octane costs approx $17.00. It then doubles in cost to increase octane more. $34 to increase a tank from 91 to 102 and $68 to go from 91 to 105 octane.
So what I am wondering from those of you who have tried it is, how much of a "noticable" increase, if any, are you experiencing with 95 octane over 91 (which is all I would try) and , do you feel twice as much of an increase if you go up to 102 octane or 105? I have never experienced race fuel.
Thanks,
Dave

I've been running it for years. I mix 1 qt can with 9 or 10 gallons of 91 octane. It has allowed me to run more timing in both cars, and get a bit of added protection...

Hi there Woody!! A very happy new year to you, glad to see you are alive and well, although the forum does frown on having TWO user names...

For 100 octane fuel mix 30% xylene to 70% 93 octane pump gas.
Torco used to claim a 1:40 mix, ie, 1 quart of Torco to 10 gallons of 93 octane gas would give you 104 octane fuel, which means the Torco would have to be 533 octane which is physically and chemically impossible.
Go to your local paint store and buy Xylene in 5 gallon pails, it's 117 octane and is C8H10...

Here's a bit more info I found on Torco...

I run Torco in my 347 TT and have never had an issue.
I buy mine in 5 gallon pales so its a lot more cost effective.
I have used Xylene in a previous car (mustang).
I can tell you that it failed my 02 and damn near killed everyone in the dyno shop when I did a pull.

Torco is great stuff. I've been using it for years. We sent 32oz out to the lab about 3 years ago, and found that Torco's claims were slightly understated.
It flat works.

I have found a few of the people who slam the product have used it in a specific application that could never benefit from it. A C5 with headers or a Honda with an aftermarket muffler in my opinion yield little noticeable results. Those with High Boost / aggressive timing curves ect are the ones who are big fans :-)

It's just too bad that some folks seem to have an axe to grind. If you have some real world data to prove Torco doesn't work I would really like to see it. If not why then do you find the need to slam a product????????

Torco works great if higher octane is needed. Torco is a fuel additive, not a cheap autoparts octane booster. If you have a high boost application it is great. It will not give you any more power on a heads/cam vette unless you tune for it and are able to make timing adjustments for it. (it still might not do anything) More octane does not make you go faster. It makes you slower if your car is not tuned for it. If you have a car with a blower or turbo that runs on pump gas and has a Wideband, pour a half of can of unleaded torco additive in your tank and watch your A/F ratio drop by over a point. It really works!

With my 2004 cobra, I had a half tank of 93 octane when I changed my pulley. I did a test run and it pegged 12.5 A/F. I was like wtf. I poured in a can of Torco and added another gallon of gas (to mix it up good) and A/F stayed at 11.1-11.2 range. It was fat but safe. Thye stuff works!
My experience exactly. Needless on a small block N/A motor but great for those high horsepower blown and turbo cars. I look at it as just a bit more insurance. If I plan to run a race with a race gas tune then I run with race gas. Street gas (93) I put in a can and a half of Torco for additional insurance.
