Make sure you do not run the car for long without a stat! It will cause a rich condition once the engine is warm (pcm will think its not) which can wash out rings in time.
(I do not mean for testing, I mean long term milage)
Good luck with it Tom!

corvettes running hot
I have a 98. All the top Mechanic SHOPS were not capable of actually troubleshooting it
I decided to do it myself
I was talked into changing the Radiator: about 3 deg F Change
I was also talked into lowering the Thermostat setting- a small change
I personally staerted the Trpoubleshooting it:
FACTORS THAT COOL THE CAR
1- Radiator size--NEW SLIGHTLY LARGER: VERY LITTLE CHANGE
2- Thermostat setting- Another small Chnage
3- Airflow--BINGO
DEWITTS FANS: doubled the Air Flow: 180 DegF in 100+ heat
with the AC ON
4-Covered the top, between the Intercooler & Radiator-BINGO
GM: Sets the Fans to come on at 238 DegFfrom the Factory?
MY CAR HAS RIUN HOT SINCE new
Most owners are lookers & POLISHERS NOT DRIVERS

The Vette hasn't seen too much use this year. About 2 months ago it started to get hot (220+) during an easy drive. It just kept getting hotter on any uphill. I found that I had screwed up when I installed the ECS blower. The passenger side fan was sometimes rubbing and the extra load caused the fuse to pop and overworked the fan motor. I replaced the fan motor and got the radiator standing up a bit more. No more problems for the next 500+ miles.
Today I took it out for an easy drive and had the same symptoms. When I got home I drove it over my pit to check things out. Everything seems fine. Both fans are running, there is no more crap than usual in front of the intercooler, A/C, or radiator. WTF is wrong?
On a side note, I'm rarely on here anymore because this site is now about 400% slower than anything else I look at. It takes my hughesnet about 3 minutes to open a page on CF now. It seems like most of the time is spent loading the damn commercials.

Very interesting write-up. Regarding #3, is this the set-up with the dual SPAL fans? Regarding #4, what did you cover the gap between the rad and intercooler with?
Thanks,

I definately think it is a faulty t-stat. The t-stat is suppose to open to about 3/8 of an inch. I had a problem with mine where it was barely opening. I replaced it with a new one and no problems now.
