Anyone want a transmission that will hold your F/I, nitrous power???

I got the old trans out today and the new one in. Some notes for anyone doing this conversion. You will have to cut the bell housing for access to the pump output on the trans. The 08Z's have lines that go up to the radiator and all the way back to the heat sink block to draw heat out of the rear differential and then back to the trans where they squirt the fluid directly on the gears. Another thanks to RPM as they suggested that I use a heat sink or "log" cooler. I will order one next week and find a suitable location for mounting on the cradle. I am really impressed with this tranny and differential. From the integrated pumps on both the differential and trans to the meatier main shaft and the differential is substantially larger than the C5. Another thing to note is the you'll have to use a RKT56 mount, which I purchased from RPM as well as some Royal Purple Synchromax for the trans and Valvoline 75/90 synthetic for the diff. Also, you need to save the shift rod from the C5 as the one from the C6 is 1.5" longer. Between setting in the trans to cut the access hole for the pump output and getting the shift rod put on properly, I pulled and installed this trans 5 times on the floor of my garage. The ATV jack made it very easy. About 5 minutes in and 5 out each time. More pics coming soon.

I discovered that the shafts are different lengths. Here's some pics showing the difference in length. If you don't have the C5 shaft, just cut 1.5" off the long straight part and weld it back up.
Not knowing the length was different, it caused me to have to pull the gearbox back out to change it. No biggie.
You can see how the T-56 shaft tapers and the T6060 doesn't, making the T6060 shaft much stronger. Plus 3 splines added. Look at the difference in the mounting flanges for the differential. There is a substantial increase in load distribution in the new flange. Another aid in preventing carnage on a violent launch.

here is a question for the tranny/rear guys...some rears hold up, some break...some built rears hold up, some break....could it be that when some rears are rebuilt they have micro fractures in the metal that weaken the casing???? its not like the cases are X rayed to check for this type of damage or metal fatigue.... how does one know 100% for certain that when spending 2500+ for a rear to be built to a stage 5, level 5 etc...the case isnt going to let go due to metal fatigue or internal fractures in the case..

Everyone drives differently and more importantly launches differently and on different tires. Wheel hop and violent launches is the killer of diffs. There was a batch of bad 300m shafts that got out too. The mounting geometry of the C5 differentials is poor compared to the C6. The ring gear size, pinion support and flange are less than that of the new Z06 and ZR1. I can't answer the questions about X-raying everything. All I can say is that I'm doing the best I know how because I would rather spend 5k once than 2.5k 5 times.

BTW, you must love rowing the gears not to go slushbox like many of your high horsepower brethren

Don't think I haven't been tempted. I have a friend with an 08 C6 A6 with a 150 shot, heads, cam, exhaust who's outrunning me in the 1/8mi.
I need to get out there on his slicks and give it hell. Every time I think about it though, I think of the $$ if I boo boo.

From my research the A6 tranny limit is around 600 rwhp before it becomes un-reliable.
The heavy hitters are using 4L80E's but since I don't plan on tracking the car a 4L60 should work just fine.
It's kind of hard beat a nitrous car in a short run with a centri since your power does not come on until the upper RPM's. You'd have a better chance with a PD blower system.
I'm sure you'd get him in a roll on type acceleration, but not from a standing start.
