Default ECS NOVI 2000 Belt Slip

I am running the ECS NOVI kit with 8 rib and what I think is a 3" pulley making about 15-16 lbs of boost with a restrictor. I am getting belt slip at 6000 rpm up to 6500 rpm's. The slip is worst in 2nd gear and a little better at the top of 3rd and 4th, but still slipping. I have the belt pretty tight so I am looking for some ideas to help eliminate the slip up top.

Is the Reichard Racing Pulley my best option at this point, or are there some other tricks I am missing?
I know this is a subjective question, but how tight can you tighten the belt before you put too much side load on the other accessories and start breaking stuff?
Also, how do you guys accurately measure the pulley while still on the car? I calipered the pulley with the belt wrapped and measured 3.185". The belt is .185" thick on both sides of the pulley so I am thinking the pulley is 2.85" or 3". Thanks for any input.

How much of a restriction is the restrictor? I think that it may just be putting a bigger load on the blower causing (or at least helping cause) the slip. Just throwing out an idea, someone with a better knowledge will probably give you some better information!

TTT for ya!

The thought came to mind but I have run the car for periods of time without belt slip so I am not sure that is the root cause. That said I am sure the restrictor isn't helping.

Thanks for your input, I never would have thought of that.

Please post up when you figure it out. Because in am in the process of installing a 3" pulley on my Novi and plan to use a restrictor to hit 14-15 psi. I hate to hear about things like belt slip.

Make sure you have the tensioner fully opened, we do not have any slip on any of our 3" eight rib belts at all so something is definitely off. The tensioner should be between the 12 and 1 o'clock position when fully opened. Even if you have it off of the crank pulley a bit, it will stretch under full boost. If the tensioner bottoms out at any time you will have belt slip.

Put on a fresh belt-maybe one that is a tad smaller. If you go smaller you'll need to remove the alt pulley to get the belt on. But before you do that make sure you get all the residual dust off the pulleys-use some brake clean but be careful. Tighten the belt tight-I mean tight, drive the car around and then re tighten when the belt is hot. The ECS setup makes tightening belts a breeze-follow this procedure and what Doug said and say good buy belt slip.

Thanks for the insight Doug and Arun. My FPR let go last week and sent some fuel into the engine compartment so I am guessing this belt is done. Will clean up the pulleys and try a new belt. At least it didn't catch on fire...

Crank the belt like Doug said. We had serious belt slip with the 3.0 pulley until it was cranked up and we did not use the restrictor.Without it we hit 20-22lbs on our 416ci:o

Did you ever figure out what was causing your belt to slip?

I was goin through this also..6000 rpm belt slip..changed to a new idler pulley and tensioner ..
Get a green back belt way way stronger..
Also another thing is blower wrap wich goes with belt length..

So theres alot involved here .u have to trial and error yourself jus wish ecs had more info on what there selling like belts tensioner numbers etc..cause its a great set up even today years later

Wow another old thread.

What!!! An ECS kit with belt slip!? There's no way that could happen. They use special anti slip metal in the ECS brackets and pulley systems.

On a serious note, guys it don't matter who's kit you have they will all slip when you start making a larger amount of boost. buy a secondary drive, direct drive or flip drive. Problem solved.

Why not try the reichard pulley mod on the crank where it really slips?
