Default Torque Tube go Boom. Need help quickly.

I thought that only the transmission output shaft broke. So we were getting ready to install the new tranny when I decided to spin the torque tube to make sure it was still locked against the clutch. Ummm no. Pulled it out and found what you see in the pics below. VERY bad timing as we were finishing things up for the Hotrod Power Tour that starts this Saturday.

Can anyone tell me the length of the torque tube from end link to end link? Thinking the local drive line shop will be my quickest repair option and have them put a new tube on. A quick response is appreciated in order to get this to them tomorrow. Other comments about options are welcomed.

The pass before this one really taking it easy it ran 10.6 @ 136mph with a 1.9 60'. The next pass I wanted to push a little harder and boom at 120+mph shifting from 3rd to 4th with 3.15 rear gears.

holy crap!! that is some carnage there.

I wish I would have seen this thread last night, I have the TT sitting in the garage and could have measured it for you. hopefully one of the vendors will step in and get you what you need. Good luck getting that ready for the power tour.

01 and older have 10mm bolts and tube made of weak metal matrix material. I have a 02 Z06 making 860rwhp when my car was apart my friend needed a torque tube, I gave him mine and he replaced it. I was on the highway in third gear hit throttle and boom. Found out my friend gave me a older unit, My original one had 12mm bolts and thick aluim. shaft. No problems so far 10.00 @146.77.

So is just the shaft, not including the rubbers or splined ends different between an auto and manual? Could I use just the automatic shaft on my manual ends and put it together? Anyone know?

Welcome to my world :P Same deal, 3-4 shift at full boost=boom. I sheared those 10mm bolts right off the front coupler and had my torque tube hanging out of the bottom of the housing.

That broken tube is still standing in a corner of my garage. Every time I am standing in the empty "Corvette parking only" stall, missing my vette, I look over at it to remind myself of the LONG series of headaches that my blown C5 was.

I miss that car though

Why don't you drop all the parts off at the drive line shop and let them figure it out? They should be good at measuring broken driveline components.

Finding someone with that small of tube in stock has been the issue. If the auto tube was the same length I would have definitely bought the one in buffalo.

RPM is awesome.

Incase anyone else needs this down the road. Per their measurements:

manual torque tube is
40 5/8" from end link to end link

automatic
40 11/16" tube with male/male ends
40 3/8" tube with male/female ends
