Default What gears to go with on D-1 408?

The motor is being built and I decided since its going to be in the shop to let them put in a DTE unit but what gears should i go with? The car sees alot more highway miles then quaters. ITs going on m6 and the expected rwhp is around 800-900.

With that kind of power I think gears or the least of you problems. But I'll say 373.

just pulled the 3.90 out of mine and had a 3.42 put in.
if this piece of crap would stop shredding belts, i would tell you how it feels
the guy that's working on it now said that only 1,2,and 3 gears are useless with the 3.42s!
3.72 and 3.90 would be stupid with that much horsepower.

First off you're not going to be anywhere near 900 rwhp unless you spray it. As for gear, a 3:15 or 3:42 should work well.

I have over 800 to the wheels with 3.73 and wish I had left it with 3.42's, I have even thought of going to 3.15's

You're making 800 rwhp with an F1-R which can flow 2,000 CFM versus 1,400 CFM with the D-1SC. That's a much different ball game.

I totally agree about gears. Most of the guys who have gone with a big gear have replaced them with stock 3:15's or 3:42's. Traction is plenty difficult with 3:42's once you get into the 600+ rwhp area.

Cheers,

Mark

Torque, not HP....

Torque is responsible for lack of traction.

But I agree with most of you. Last thing you need with well over 500rwtq is more gear to bring it up even higher.

750 rwhp with a M12
I run 273s and still slide all over in 1st and 2nd.
I do love 135 mph out of 3rd.

Yeah I know thats why I was agreeing with you, 900 with a d1sc is highly unlikely

I can tell you with my mid 700 rwhp there is no traction until 4th gear on the street with my 3.42, so maybe I should think of going with 3.15 myself

Tires tires tires.

You have to have the proper rubber.

Eg: I skate all over the road just rolling into it in the first three gears on michellin pilot sports.

JBsBlownC5, making more power than me, can hammer the throttle anywhere from second gear and up, and hook, on Nitto NT01s.

Im switching to these tires when my Pilot Sports are done, and in the meantime picked up a set of BFG DRs to play with.

I would imagine even a 408 with a D1 making 700rwhp would be viable with the stock gears if you ran sticky rubber (BFG DRs, Nitto NT01s, Nitto 555Rs, RIIs, and so on).
