What you want for your Vette and what it's worth are two different things. Heck, I'd want $50,000 for mine! It's a toy. I think the C5 prices will go the way of the C4's. Maybe not as low as I've seen ...$8,000.

Is someone in this thread selling a vette? Why is this even being discussed? At least 99.5% of all cars ever manufactured will start losing value the moment they're driven off the dealer's lot, and will continue to lose value as they accumulate miles and age. Buy a car to have fun with it, not as an investment.
C5 corvettes are worth what they're worth. There's nothing about them that makes them special in a way that exempts them from losing value. Yeah, I'm considering buying one, but honestly I can get a similar combination of performance, asthetics, and fun for the same "investment" or less with other cars. Of course, I'm one who buys cars to use them, not for status, or to keep in the garage...so this is all IMHO.

Not too long ago, there was a Vette posted for sale in here by one of our supporting dealers. I sent an Email discussing my budget requirements and was responded with an Email saying the owner is firm on his price. OK...no problem. Strangely, the next day there is a post saying that the owner will accept any REASONABLE offers. Then about a month later, I see that the owner came down in his price around $3000 and car sells for within $1000 of what I was prepared to spend. The term "REASONABLE" is very relative. I don't know if the post was directed at me or others who messaged this person, but if you're selling an item in a free-market economy (whether it's a Corvette or a dog house), don't get your feathers ruffled simply because others don't place the same value on your item as you do.
Don't get me wrong...I love the Corvette. It's one of the greatest cars in the world, but it's still a car which depreciates. The C5's are mass produced, and most of them come loaded as it is, so nothing particularly "rare" about them (I always get a chuckle when I see a C5 for sale and the person talks about what a "rare" car theirs is ). It's winter and the C6's are out. Prices are going to take a hit.

For all you know, his offer was reasonable, and the seller was the azzhole asking for an outrageously high price. Since no prices or info on the car was posted, you have no basis on which to make that judgement.

But don't mention price, you will be reported right away by one of the poster here ! You can't protect the price of the car, the market bears the price no matter how many times babies report it to mods.

As the compairison was drawn earlier to a Supra; a supra is alot more rare than a vette will ever be, and they also no longer make them, hense their residual value. With the C6's out now, alot of people are feeling the need to trade up to the new model, flooding the used C5 market with more inventory.
Its all about supply and command.

Lots of opinions here and I'll add one more.
The C5 will increase in value only if inflation increases our salaries 10 fold in 40 years as it has the last 40. Then 40 years from now, a C5 Corvette will cost around $200,000.
What was the avarage income of a middle class American in 1964?
Think about it.
But don't count on inflation. Count on "DE-flation" with the new world economy. The USA job base is shrinking in all areas, both the blue and white collar work forces.
Young Americans will have it quite rough getting decent work over the next 40 years. And those of us with decent jobs will be getting salary cuts.
Where is Ross Perot when you need him? That sucking sound is killing the USA. (To you young people....if you have no clue what I'm talking about here, you were just too young, or not paying attention 12 years ago)
As a few of you have stated, a C5 is best for enjoyment, not investment. Take good care of it, and just maybe you won't loose so much, come time to sell.

Makes sense to me. For a ROI, you'd be better served in a MM making <1%.

C5 Prices
I recently bought a new 04 coupe for $35,000 including tax and a seven year warrantly. If I keep it the full seven years and sell it for $14,000 with low miles (1997 C5s are going for more than that currently), I lost $21,000 over seven years or $3,000 per year. What sports car can you drive for $250 per month? Certainly not a Porsche.
God bless America and America's sports car Corvette.
