Default (SOLD) '97 "Grand Sport" Coupe (Brighton, MI)

1997 Coupe, MN-6, 40k miles.

This was my first Corvette and I have loved every minute of owning it, working on it and best of all, driving it! But, with the recent purchase of my C7, the time has come to let her go to the next Corvette enthusiast.

This is a one-of-a-kind Corvette, subtly modified to be my interpretation of what a C5 Grand Sport would have been if Chevrolet had actually built one.

By design, it looks factory original and only knowledgeable Corvette enthusiasts will be able to identify the modifications.

Here is a link the the build thread in the Corvette Forum...

C5 Grand Sport Project

  • STAINLESS STEEL EXHAUST ENHANCEMENT PLATE W/C5 EMBLEM
  • B&B TRI-FLO STAINLESS STEEL PERFORMANCE CAT-BACK EXHAUST
I also upgraded the stereo (and installed Dynamat)...the main audio components are...
  • Kenwood XR700/5 channel amp
  • Helix B62C component speakers for the doors
  • Kicker coax rear speakers
  • Kenwood 10" sub in stealth sub box
I am sure I forgetting a few things. Other than the tune and mounting the tires, I did all the work myself. I am a former ASE Certified Master Technician - all work was done to a professional level. I am meticulous about maintenance and have all the records and receipts since I have owned it (13 years). Full color correction and ceramic coating from Lingenfelter Auto Spa. I will include a full set of factory service manuals with the car if it is purchased by someone from the CF family.

This is one of the nicest Corvettes of this vintage you will find.

$20,900

I'll give this a bump for a local owner who did a really nice job on this C5. The interpretation of the Grand Sport package on a C5 is really cool. The upgrades and attention to detail in the build thread (and in this ad) should be a huge plus in selling this car.

Thank you both for the kind words...

For someone interested in a C5, this car will not disappoint.

I plan to have it at the 70th Corvette Anniversary show at the site of the new GM Heritage Center this Friday. Here is a link to the show...

I recently had an opportunity to see and drive this car in person..... and I would encourage anyone looking for a Corvette to give this C5 some serious consideration. If you want a really nice C5, this is it. It’s been taken care of very well, and the upgrades and modifications are done very nicely by an owner who had time to do it right. It sounds great, it looks great, it’s very clean all over – under the hood, underneath, and inside. I bet this would perform awesome if your interest was autocrossing – it already has the upgrades you’d want. I’m sure it gets plenty of looks at a cruise night or car show. The Grand Sport theme has been carried out really cool, and it looks like it was a real option on C5’s. It certainly performs very well when you want to feel that acceleration as you shift through the gears with that short throw shifter. Whenever I look for a car of this caliber, I want to know it was taken care of. This is a great C5 that will make the next owner very happy.

After sharing my thoughts, I realized someone may be curious about why I didn’t buy it, so I will share. When giving this car very strong consideration, I decided part of the ownership experience that I enjoy is making some modifications and upgrades myself, and that a completely stock C5 was best for me at this time. I would have been completely happy with this car otherwise.

As of today I have taken a deposit on the car with tentative plans to complete the sale next week. I will update this thread at that time.
