Default Will '03's drive the value of the 02's up?

It seems as we end the 2002 model year they are giving Vettes away. I've seen discounts nearing $8,000, new Vettes for $35K, etc. It's sickening to me when six months ago they would only come off a couple grand.

I am wondering if the market on the 03's wil be tight due to the anninversary model. Since GM will probably produce as many $5K anniversary options as they can will that limit the supply of normal 03's and drive the 02 values up from where they currently are?

I don't think it will change much from before.. as in the same rate of decrease. When C6s start showing up you could see some drops. BTW- 6 months ago you could still find new C5s for invoice or close (its been that way since 2000).

If this forum is any indicator, a lot of folks are not happy with the Anniversary model, so, the demand may not be as great as GM/Chevy dealers may think. That being said, prices on the "2002" models will probably continue to drop. Hope not - see my signature -

How can you justify the extra 5K for the "Anniversary Edition"?

Everything stated is IMHO. I don't feel that anything will drive up the value of the any of the C5 series of vettes, especially, unfortunately, the Z06's. The 2002 Z06's are already at their years end, delivery wise. And there are too many of them. Pratically every new vette that I see is a Z06. Scary. And notice most of the comments regarding people/persons selling 1/2 year old Z06's are selling at about an average price of $43.5K. This is not exactly a positive indicator of sound investment trends. And I think that the same will happen to the 2003's, especially the anniversary model. There will be too many of them also. I am interested in seeing other responses regarding this issue. Also, something else to consider is when somebody states that they got their vette for $45.5K, it did not advise if that was the out the door costing, and whether that person was in a state that required state sales tax. I am in L.A. county, Cal. State and all applicable local sales taxes add up to 8.25 %. So if I buy a car in Ca., I will write a check to the DMV for about $4.2 K. If I buy out of state, I wil be charged a use tax by the DMV when I go to liscense the car for the same amount. Try that on for size?
Thanks in advance

Yikes! I'm glad I don't live in CA! New car sales tax in NC is 2.9%, and it's charged on the difference between the sale price and any trade-in allowances. I had a $35.5k trade-in allowance (2 cars), and paid only ~$325 in sales tax on a $46.7k - $1k rebate deal. Adding the luxury tax and tag/title fees, I was out the door at $46.5k.
