Still FS: 2004 Torch Red Z06, now with pics
For sale: 2004 Chevrolet Corvette Z06. Highly desirable Torch Red exterior/Black interior color combination. 405HP, 6-speed manual transmission, all of the Z06 suspension bits and trim pieces.
Built and delivered March 2004. 9800 miles in mint condition. Always garaged, no bad weather, non-smoker, and only hand washed. Factory options include the memory & electro chromatic mirror packages. NO ugly body side moldings!
A few modifications were made to make the car more worry-free while instructing at open track events (yes, the car has been on track three times and if that’s a turn-off then you can probably stop reading, but these cars are meant for this kind if thing!). All are reversible, but I think you will agree they are all tasteful and exceptionally functional:
1. The brakes have been upgraded to StopTech (http://www.stoptech.com) hardware all around. The front and rear rotors are all 355mm (14”) in diameter and are a true floating design with aluminum hats. The front caliper is a 6-piston fixed unit while the rear caliper is a 4-piston deal. Both are painted bright red to match the car. The stock parking brake function is maintained with this upgrade. Stainless steel brake lines and Motul RBF600 brake fluid are also on board.
The pads only have 2,000 miles or so on them and were NOT tracked. I used race pads when instructing in order to save the street pads from fading. The front and rear track pads (Hawk HT-14 front, Hawk HT-10 rear) would be included in the deal at no additional charge.
The retail price for the brake kit (with race pads) was over $5,500, but they are worth every penny. I could talk all day about how wonderful the brakes are, but all it takes is one stop from 140mph to make you understand
2. Because the brakes are so large, the wheels needed to be upgraded to fit over them. As a result, I purchased a set of Kinesis K28 wheels (http://www.kinesismotorsport.com). They were the lightest race-proven wheels I could find. In order to reduce rotating mass while maximizing contact patch, the front wheels are 18x10 and the rears are 18x11. The center sections were custom powdercoated satin black and the outer rim sections were polished then anodized for an understated gray appearance. The two-tone look compliments the car wonderfully.
To match the black centers, I purchased a set of black chrome lug nuts with wheel locks (also included), so the investment is a little bit more secure.
The retail price for the set of four wheels was just about $5,000 as well, but that’s what you pay for a race-quality, 3-piece, lightweight wheel in that size. The pics barely do them justice and the huge brakes look fantastic through the thin spokes.
3. Because the stock tires would no longer be of any use, I installed a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 2 tires, 265/35 in front and 295/35 in the rear (http://www.tirerack.com). These are MUCH quieter than the stock GY tires and the performance is every bit as good on the street. The ride quality is every bit as good as stock as well, if not a touch better!
They only have about 2,000 miles on them, and they were NOT tracked. I used DOT competition tires on track to save the street tires from chunking (more on these below).
4. The last significant mod was to lower the car approximately 12mm using the factory hardware and having the car professionally cornerweighted and aligned. The diagonal corner weights are exactly 50/50 and the alignment is slightly more aggressive than stock with 1.6 degrees of front negative camber and 1.1 degrees negative in the rear.
So what else is there? The car has been fed a steady diet of Mobil 1 5W30 (it’s on its fifth or sixth oil change now), and I replaced the tranny fluid and diff fluid for the second time last month with Amzoil synthetic lubricants. All of the drain plugs are now magnetic as well.
There are a few more extras too. I would include a car cover with bag, ramps needed to jack up the car without risk of damage, and a few miscellaneous bolts and a spare set of front airdam pieces which I bought but never needed. I also still have the original rear brake hardware (rotors and calipers), but I sold the front rotors and calipers so they would not be included.
The engine and driveline are bone stock right down to the air filter element. Last month I was able to put the car on a chassis dyno at work just for fun and it made 346 RWHP, so it is plenty healthy. For what I was looking to do, the motor was NOT the weak link…
The KBB value is listed at $40,300 for the car in excellent condition, but without any of the modifications (over $11,000 in mods listed above). Consequently, the asking price is $41,900. You basically get a sweet car in mint shape with the 2,000-mile old mods at a fraction of their price.
So why is it for sale? Well, baby #3 (surprise!) will be here in March and it’s time to get responsible or something like that. I love the car to death, but it just doesn’t fit into the family equation very well any more. Glad I could at least enjoy it while I was able.
I have tons of pics available, but am completely inept at posting them, so please e-mail if you have interest. The car is located in SE Michigan and I would be willing to travel a reasonable distance to deliver it to its happy new owner.

As a postscript, I also would have available (only after the car is sold) an additional set of Kinesis K28 wheels identical to the set on the car but with Hoosier R3S04 race tires mounted. 285/30’s in front and 305/30’s in the rear. They have been used only once and have TONS of rubber left. The wheels look new! With the race tires the set lists for over $6,000, but I would sell them to the purchaser of the car for $3,000.

Pics and more notes
If someone is able to post them for me, I will happily send along pics for viewing. I have sent them to all who have asked directly through e-mail...
I forgot to mention earlier that I own the car (no loan), have the title in hand, and it is clean as a whistle. I am the original owner and the car has never been involved in a traffic incident. No surprises here - just a clean, solid, fast car
