WTB:heads/cam/S/C vette for under 20k?? is it possible
I'v been looking for a vette for over a year now.. and i first started to want a FRC really badly and still love the body style and the light weight,z51, are all options that i want.. I have found many in my price range expect they are not as modded as i would like them to be.. ibut since i can not offord a zo6, the body style and looks obviously are the closest thing to it. But i really want SPEED Is it possible to find a 6SPEED VETTE 97+ dont really care about miles as long as it has a good shinny zaino body hehe..with either HEADS/CAM or possibly a Supercharger for less than 20k? if you have one let me know or am i just nuts
So what do you guys think.. should i just buy a FRC with intake/exhaust.. and slowly mod it to get it the way i want it... for 20k now or should i keep searching and hope to find my ultimate package/ 450rwhp+ heads/cam/supercharger.. I really was looking forward to getting one for this summer.. but i know most likely if i wait.. the prices will drop especially over the winter time.. what do you guys think i should do?

Why don't you just by a stock Vette and put a different gear in it. How "fast" do you need to go? My 10 yr old stock Vette will do nearly 150 isn't that fast enough?

Why don't you wait until you can afford one of these cars? If you're banging your head about a high mileage car for $20,000, what would you do if something broke and you had to fix it? Not trying to be a dick, just realistic.

I know the LS1 Engine is very good and reliable.. but if i look and wait for a HEADS/CAM car.. it would be even more reliable since of the new heads.. and the check up on it the previous owner would have arleady looked @ and fixed with the engine torn apart.. Plus i'd most likely be buyin the car from someone who would obviously know something about cars and would have taken care of it.. Plus i'd be getting the total package.. 400+ rwhp which is what i'm used to anyways with my old car. Either way if i do buy a vette stock or not.. if somethign did go wrong within a year that was major i'd be screwed..and would have to borrow money.. and i doubt that would happen because i'm being very picky atm.. not to find something beat on and one that would last me a long time.
--- as far as wanting speed.. i doubt i would ever go over 150mph around here (even though i did come close a couple times in my 300ZXTwin Turbo) but i want something thats FAST in 1/4 not top speed.

I suppose everyone has an opinion but I'd think that nothing can be more reliable than a stock "garage queen" C5. There's nothing wrong with the stock heads and any additional power would only put additional stress on the drivetrain.
I'm also in the market for a <20k FRC and I've been monitoring this forum along with Ebay for the last 9 months. Personally, my priority will be the lowest miles along with the general condition of the car. Mods will be the last on my list but anything more than an intake, headers and exhaust will probably turn me off. After all, it'd be much easier to have my near stock C5 serviced around town than an H/C or supercharged C5. (Remember that post a few months ago from that buyer who was having problems with his heavily modded C5 ? He found out afterwards that it had a tranny swap and wrong ECU.)
But in any event, patience is always the key. I'm sure you'll start to see some great bargains within the next few months.

Modded or not, have you driven many C5s?
I too have been looking for a C5 for some time and also have owned many fast cars. Hell, I've got an 85 TA that runs mid-12s naturally aspirated. I thought, a Vette is just an F-body, but a bit lighter and with better suspension/tranny. So, for years I kept building up TA's, making the chassis stiff, pumping in power, etc. BUt I tell ya, the Vette has a totally different beast. The cars may share parts, but a modded F-body is NOT a Vette... not even a stock Vette.
I don't know what you were putting out in your TT-300ZX, but I suspect it falls into the same category as my 12 and low 13-running F-bods. Feels really strong after all the mods, like its kicking your *** all over the place, but in reality, people in C5s, MBs, M3s and other 300hp+ cars are sipping tea while doing the same thing that's rattling your teeth out.
It's all a matter of preference, but I would get the best C5 you can and my opinion is; lowest-mileage #1, best condition #2, most factory options #3 and mods #4.
I'm not one of those guys that craps on modded cars, but I wouldn't let a nice stock car get away, either. You can always find some way to get money for a part or two, but if you inherit someone's race car and you're always fixing it, you'll never even enjoy the car.
Just my 2-cents.

So it's not really FAST (top end) that you are interested in it's QUICK (how quickly you get from say 0 to 100)
In that case, do the same as prev suggested buy the nicest low milage stock Vette that you can reasonably afford and put a different gear in the rear end -- perhaps 4.11. You'll get where you're going rather quickly
