Need some opinions guys. I'm in the process of buying NassBlue's '99 coupe and it's located in Philadelphia, PA. I'm due to fly there on the 14th (wish it was today), complete the purchase, and either drive it home or ship it back via truck transport service. I kind of am looking forward to the drive home but it's probably a 16-17 hour drive and over a 1000 miles. What do you think?

Drive it and enjoy the drive back home.
The time it take a transport compay to pick it up and delivery it to you could be up to 3 additional wks.

Drive it,, I just bought a 2000 vert.. and drove it home from Fla.. 600 miles.. and loved every minute of it.. Drove my last car home from Iowa, 1,000 miles.. you get to know the car well..

I bought my CTS-V in Philly as well and drove it 1100 miles home. It was a fun road trip, well except for going through DC at 5:30pm on a Friday.

Drive it if you have the time.

I agree with all of you. I must have had a brain fart for even considering having it trucked back. I guess I was just not wanting to put so many miles on it at one time plus the long haul. Who knows, it might give me a reason to make it a longer return home. Thanks guys, can't wait.

If you buy a car from a private owner out of state, do you get temporary tags from your home state ahead of time & then pick up the vehicle? What if after seeing the car you decide not to buy? Are there any issues with the DMV in your state or do just turn the temporary tags back in?

1000 miles/ 150mph average speed= just over 6.5 hours, I ve done cruises longer than that!!!

Bought mine off Ebay, flew down to Florida and drove 1000 miles back. Great drive, things couldn't have gone better. BTW do make sure you get a temporary tag to drive home on as has been mentioned.

If I wasn't a jackass and saved an e-bay ad of an '02 TR/MR Z in Texas....if I could have purchased the car, I'd have flown in with my dad and driven it home. I received the green light to do so if necessary from work today. I wish I saved it. The thing was M I N T!!!

I flew to Atlanta & drove my '04 back from Maxie Price, but have to admit it bugged the hell out of me to leave it in a hotel parking lot the first night. A forum member is in the process of buying my '04 and was planning on driving it 2100 miles back home, but I think I might have swayed him into shipping it. If you are around Brian.... your choice. I have to admit it was a great way to get to know the car.

I don't think I would get any sleep knowing my vette was parked in a hotel parking lot overnight. I think I'll drive straight back.

I bought my 'Vette from Nevada and they have a great system. They issue a transport tag or something that will let you drive it home. You only need to provide a bill of sale and possibly insurance info. That way if you go look at the car, and don't like it you aren't out the taxes from getting a temporary.

I ended up borrowing the plate from the owner since I would have had to wait ~3 hours at the DMV, not realizing that it is such an issue.

Drive it. I sold one a while back and the idiot who showed up tried to put the car on the trailer which was too steep, scraping the bottom panels mid car on both sides. He delivered many vettes...yeah right! BTW, it was arranged through some place in MO who dispatches for movement. I don't recommend it.
