Are you sure that it's a 96? The VIN # says it is, but the color is wrong. Has it been repainted? All Admiral Blue 96s were GS w/ black or red interiors.

That's not a '96...'96s had body color paint on the little divider thing between the front driving lights and the side repeaters

I suppose you checked the VIN again? If not, go back and make sure you didn't make a typo. You mentioned that it is a friend's car. Do you have the car in your posession or does he/she have it? If you have it pop the hood and see if it has the LT4 engine.

ok that means we've got either a 94 or 95, someone would have to run a carfax or be able to analyze the VIN# to tell which one though

The problem seems to be with the color. In your picture the car looks to be Admiral Blue (color code 28) the problem is in 1996 Admiral Blue was only available as the color for the Grand Sport, which was an LT4 6 speed car with a black or red interior. In addition to the Admiral Blue paint, the car had a wide white stripe runnung front to back.

Check the paint code on your car. It is located on a sticker under the lid of the passenger side rear compartment. If it is in fact 28 then you have something truly unique. (I'm guessing something is wrong with the color in the picture itself and your car is actually a code 43 - Bright Aqua Metalic)

For ref., here is a 1996 Aqua:
(and as you can tell, she goes teal in the sun to an admiral blue under parking garage lights at night)

The thought that it might be Aqua was just a wild guess. No other color is even close.

Very odd. Yes, the front bumper clip serperator should be body color, not black on any 96. Also, 6spds were ONLY coupled with the LT4 engine in 96. If it is an LT1, then it cant have a 6 spd. My guess is it is a 95 (due to side gills)
(unless the car was in an accident, and pieced together)

Looks like a 95 to me. Side gills, black between lights on the front, 6sp. LT1. If it is a 96 it has had extensive work and repaint. Guy
