'86 Pace Car Convert. Priced to sell.
Had this one a long time now but it's time to move on. Red on red Pace Car with 2 year old white top. 120,000 well maintained miles on engine. The good stuff:
Aluminum heads were rebuilt 2 years ago, transmission was rebuilt 2 months ago. Tires are good all around, brakes are 1 year old, still passes California smog test, digital dash all works, new bladders for sport seats which work also, power mirrors work, A/C blows cold, cruise control works, power antenna works, in fact all the stuff that usually doesn't work on a vette of this age does work on this one. Sony Mobil ES CD player, comes with original Delco Bose system as well, original owners manual too. I've had the alloys polished to a brilliant chrome-like finish. Newer radiator, water pump & cooling fan. Seats were reupholstered 2 years ago with covers from Mid-America. All lights and headlight motors work inside and out. No cracks in dash. All locks and factory alarm still work fine.
Now the not so good stuff:
The paint is good from accross the street but up close shows it's age. Some small chips and scratches and clear coat is a little dull on top side of hood near windshield. I had the front bumper repainted a couple of months ago due to stone chips etc. so it shows OK. The rotors could use a resurface as they tend to shudder a bit under heavy brake application. Steering wheel is still presentable but starting to sun fade, same with tops edges of door panels. Small stone chip in windshield. Drivers side sun visor has a small hole in the fabric from sun damage. The velcro attachments for the soft top at the B-pillars could use attention as well as the weather stripping at the same point. Missing spare tire, jack and wrench.
This car shows it's age but it's still fun to drive and certainly not a disgrace to any driver. It just needs a new home and someone with the desire to give it a new lease on life. I can't seem to load pictures here anymore so just e-mail me if you'd like me to send you pics or you can see pics at vettehound.com.
$6,000 will buy the car.
Thanks,
Greg

Hey FozzyBear,
You'd sure think it would bring six grand wouldn't you. I've had about 100 e-mails on this car from all over the country and even though it's the lowest priced convert. in the country, the first thing everyone wants to do is offer me less! Can you believe it? And they haven't even seen the car. The car has been in my garage since I started this ad, one guy showed up to look at it for a friend of a friend and that went nowhere.
I ordered a new car a few weeks ago and figured I'd run the vette here and let one of the members get a good deal on a good vette and the car would sell right away. Well I took delivery of the Buick yesterday and I still have the vette. You can't believe the negative responses and low offers I've had to this ad. One guy was generous enough to offer $3,500 to "take it off my hands". Most offer between $4,500 and $5,500 without ever seeing the car.
All the other converts I've seen are advertised from about $8,500 to $12,000. I priced mine like a coupe and couldn't get one honest bite from one straight up guy looking for a decent vette priced right. I'm so tired of e-mailing people back to tell them I won't reduce the price I've just stopped responding to those questions.
I really hate the idea of selling my vette on eBay. Most of them are real rough or over priced.
Maybe I should drive down to Florida, have an ice cold beer with Brett and let him have it.
Greg
The car is absolutely worth $6,000.00 as a driver, but not more. I'm the guy that had someone look at it on my behalf. I would have paid the $6,000 if it didn't cost another $800.00 to ship the car. I offered $5,250.00. I will still pay $6,000. if you want to drive it to Chicago or pay the delivery. Then I'd drive it until it stopped working and sell it for 4-5000 or part it out.
That car is a driver and nothing more. It would take $10,000 to make it pristine and it would still have 120000 miles on it when you were done. For a total investment of 16 grand you can find an original low mile example.
Hi Greg:
I'm a really good friend of the guy near San Antonio that really really wanted the car. He was going to leave this morning to drive out to the west coast to pick her up and bring her home. Will you re-consider selling him the car for a reduced price ? He mentioned something about the a/c ? Please let him have the car. He's give her a really good home, honest.
Please re-think your no decision and let him have the car.
