Just spent some time looking at "The Want Advertiser" ( a rather large New England classifieds publication). I was amazed at the prices people are asking for their vettes in comparrison to this site. In general the average prices are nearly 25% higher.
88 - 91 = average price = $13,000 - $17,000
92 - 96 = average prive = $18,000 - $28,000

What am I missing here?
Asking price does not equal selling price (or value). A lot of the people who list their cars here have done their homework and, in some cases, asked what the consensus was as far as a fair asking price. It could be that the people advertising in that publication have been cooped up all winter and are working in a vacuum.
It must be wishful thinking on their part. I was at a major auto auction this morning and a '92 coupe in pretty good condition, 68,000 miles, went for $10,800. That's the wholesale price so a dealer would probably add $4,000 to it. A private sale should go for close to the wholesale price. Banks would only finance $10,200 on it. I was willing to go up to $9,800 so it went for far more than I thought it was worth.
An '03 coupe with 11,000 miles sold for $38,600 which seemed too high to me. I guess it's just a matter of what the buyers are willing to pay.
Here in Western PA the C4 prices run the whole range from lows of $6,000 for 1984's to highs of mid 20's for 1996's. (Excluding Callaways, Grand Sports, and ZR1's) The prices go up 20 - 25% on average after April begins until October. Demand dictates these higher seasonal prices. There are many fine C4's in my area and I find the nicer ones are priced more accurately than the hammered high mileage ones. Plus many of the Corvettes are stored here during winter months which keeps them nice and low mileage. Sometimes pricing comes down to the buyer's interest level and time constarints. And as always, cash talks the best when buying. I t usually receives a 10 - 15% discount around here.
You missed my point :smash: :smash: :smash: :smash:
They are highr than those on this forum. And, they have been priced that way throughout the winter. They will even go higher next month when spring is truley here.
Forum guys know their audience and know realistic values. There arent too many suckers on the forum and sellers must know it so price accordingly. OR guys here are so rich they can afford to give them away.
