94 Admiral Blue ZR-1 - 550HP
UPDATE: SOLD
I just got her, but I have unexpectedly found a C8 Z06 allocation, so my current C4 ZR-1 is going to have to go.
1994 Admiral Blue ZR-1, 3rd rarest color with only 56 made total (44 in 1994), just over 90K miles on the odometer, but really more like 80K miles as it doesn't have the 4.10 speedo gear.
UPDATED PRICE: $39,900.
The car is in incredible condition and has been lovingly modified and taken care of by two of the ZR-1 communities well known members David Johnson and Scott Gentry (I bought it from Scott). Everything on the car works and it is very well sorted.
Interior: Absolutely amazing and needs nothing.
For those not familiar with the car, David had a full Alcantara (suede) interior done on the car, and it is absolutely incredible. Gives it a very modern feel and really raises the bar over a stock interior.
There is a Pioneer touchscreen radio with Bluetooth, Alpine 4 channel amp and all new Kicker speakers.
All of this is finished off with custom Lloyds floor mats.
Exterior: Remarkable condition.
I'd honestly rate the paint as a 9 out of 10, and looks incredible for being the original paint. The only area that might need some attention is the PPF on the front bumper cover, replace that and the car is going to be very close to a 10.
OZ Racing Futura wheels in stock sizes with brand new (literally maybe 1500 miles on them) Michelin Sport All Season 4 tires (the best tire available in stock sizes).
Euro tail lights and LED headlights, new weatherstripping, and remote entry.
Modifications and Maintenance:
AC is R134a and blows cold, with a new control head (NOS) 2 years ago.
Timken wheel bearings.
DRM coilovers with fully functioning FX3 shocks.
New ZR-1 specific windshield (no delamination).
Engine from a 33K mile car installed by Graham Behan. Stock bottom with ported top end and custom cams. Tuned by Corey Henderson and made 447whp.
Mercruiser logo intake manifold
Long tube headers with B&B 2nd gen cat back(pinned open Fusion mufflers)
4.10 gears (does need a speedo gear)
ZFDoc short throw shifter
ZFDoc balanced & blueprinted transmission
V2V frame stiffeners (the car is the most solid C4 I've ever driven)
Harness bar.
Custom embroidered liner on the inside of targa top.
The car is an absolute blast to drive, honestly it feels just as fast as my previous 391cid car (500+whp with stock gears). And it gets attention everywhere it goes, including winning a trophy at the first show I took it to after getting it home. I hate to sell, but again it was always part of my plan to move it on once my C8 Z06 allocation came up, I just thought it would have been another 1-2 years before that happened.
I have replaced the center vent cover missing in this pic.

Thanks, I'm really on the fence about selling it. Unfortunately, I don't have the garage space (yet) for it, the C8Z and my wife's car (much less my poor daily driver Grand Cherokee). But I do have two relatives in town with empty garage bays if no one wants it and I have to keep it.

I’ve had two mid-engines, coupe and HTC and they just don’t compare to the feel of a C4, so I sold them at a loss.
I know the Z is more powerful, but you can’t row the gears.
Now considering that they are about 6 figures apart… I would definitely pick the C4 and use the extra 100k for a race car/trailer/and a seasons worth of entry fees!

for whatever it’s worth… if this car and the Z06 were the same price, (and I know very well they are not) I would pick this car over the C8 Z06.

As always my timing is terrible. Too bad this wasn't for sale in another 6 months. I'm getting everything hunkered down for winter.

It may be. I’m assuming a lot of people are doing the same as serious interest has been slow. I don't have to sell, so I can be patient and wait to next spring/summer to find the right buyer.

not much use on long trips
Hi Evan, I am interested in your impressions of your Z over the long road trip. I used to have one, a 90 stock, and I'd do the C4 Gathering as frequently as I could get time. It was a 900 mile shot/14 hrs. in one sitting and I swear I was not worn out by the car. I had 4 fuel stops, 5 if you count the full tank to leave with. I would always marvel how comfortable and easily the Z did the trip. Thank you for the honest opinion on your car.
Happy Thanksgiving!

I’ve had 3 ZR-1s, both stock suspension and with DRM coil overs w/FX3 shocks, and all have been very comfortable for long trips. The biggest potential issue I’ve found over them for road trips is the exhaust, as it can really make or break it. My fist ZR-1 had a Borla exhaust, and it wasn’t bad. A little drone at certain RPMs, but easy to drive around it by changing cruising speed or gear/rpm. My 2nd initially had the original gen 1 B&B, and that exhaust is absolutely horrible for driving more than 20-30 minutes. If I hadn’t had my Bose noise canceling headphones with me, I’m honestly not sure I could have handled driving it home from Baltimore to Dallas. I swapped it to a Corsa and was way happier with it, zero drone, quiet at cruising but loud when you got on it. The 94 is my 3rd and has the gen 2 B&B, and is very good as well. No drone at cruise, but a little light throttle drone in higher gear at low rpm, and sounds great when you’re on it. Has a little deeper tone than the Corsa. My favorite is the Corsa exhaust, but the gen 2 B&B is a close 2nd.
One thing that I’ve really noticed across the 3 cars is that the ZR-1 really likes more rear gear. The first was mildly modded with 4.10s, the second I had both stock and then fully built with Pete’s 391cid and stock gears, and the current one is a full stock cid build making 447whp with 4.10s. The stock gears are honestly way too tall for anything less than 500whp, and having shorter gears even at 450 wheel makes the car a much better cruiser as you can use 6th gear a lot more/easier.
Anyway, overall I find the C4 ZR-1 (and LT1/4 C4s as well) to be great cruisers.

Have an 07 Z06 now with Braum seats…The bolsters are not adjustable like the ZR-1”s..Need to make many more stops with the C6 then I did when I had my ZR-1…
