Nice car Im sure, but....

Was the car maintained? yes, maintained.... 32 years is a long time on rubber and fluids even with no miles. Was it started and systems at least run... A/C, heater etc.

If those are the original tires, theres $7-800 right off the bat for a potential buyer....

Even with zero miles..... I would say $15k to the right buyer. When you get to $18k-24k thats low mile LT4 (GS) and decent mile LT5 (ZR-1) territory....

yup it would matter most how it was maintained. If it has just sat then theres money that needs to be spent. Personaly id rather buy one that saw a few hundred every year exercising it and had at least had the gas replaced yearly. that said even though collector interest is low on c4s id probably start at 20k.

I don't think the buyer for a car like this is looking for a driver.

I would contact one of the specialty corvette dealerships and see what they can do for you. They will be able to give you an idea of what is worth and have a better chance of finding the right buyer.

I'm not sure this would be the best way to get a fair valuation. They are in the business to make money. What they will be happy to do is low-ball a seller to maximize their profit. The name of their game is greed.

Personally, I think this car would be a perfect candidate for Barrett-Jackson or Mecum...this is the way I would go. This is where the people with deep pockets looking for very special cars shop. I think you will have a very hard time determining an actual "worth" on this car any other way. Remember, a car is only worth what a buyer is willing to pay.

Good luck and PLEASE keep us posted! As an enthusiast, the sale of your rare '86 will be interesting to follow.

Regards,

Dave

I didn't say sell it to them wholesale. Most reputable dealers will give you a fair valuation. If they won't, go on to the next dealer. He could consign it or sell it outright.

Thank you to everyone who has offered their feedback.

When the time is right, we will most likely go the route of MECUM or Barrett Jackson at no reserve.

It's a rare car with the triple black and manual trans in this condition. Always a great conversation piece, but it just sits around looking pretty. I would rather use the space for a car I can drive.

Will keep posted if I do something. Thank you.

This car should bring $20k easily. It is one of a kind. Someone will buy it for their collection. I wouldn't change the tires or touch a thing.
This car would be great at the Corvette Museum. GLWS. Let us know how you make out.

I'd contact this guy to see if he wants to make an offer. This is WELL in his wheelhouse. He has a TON of ultra low mile cars.

This 682 mile car brought $41,000.. I have more homework to do and I may consider keeping it as well. I am yet to find another comparison in the world...

Agreed. EVERYTHING on this car is original. Nothing has been touched or will be. Thanks for your comment!

I'm guessing this car is a bit north of 20k. It is clearly a museum piece as nobody in their mind would put any miles on this car. It is arguably the lowest mile 86 in north america. Making it driver would take about 5k.

I'm not sure on Canadian tax, but in the US, I'd give it to a tax except museum and take a big deduction for many years.

This car is tough to value.

Give us the back story on the car.... what made you decide to not drive it? Are you the original purchaser? Did you even start the car regularly? Like to hear your story.

Something to consider for sure. yes mileage will instantly decrease the value. Car gets flat decked everywhere.

I'll post the whole story and pics when I'm back home in Vancouver. Currenlty traveling for work.

I was fortunate to find this car on Craigslist of all places. I wasn't looking for anything but when I saw the AD i had to go at least see the car. I've had Corvettes since I was 20..Im now 36. From 72's to an 09' zo6. Minute I saw it...I was like holy ****... This thing is probably the only one in the world like it. Made the deal right away and here we are. I have a few cars... None get driven as much as I'd like thus I'm considering selling. I bought it from the first owner and he literally bought it, drove it home 5 miles and parked it forever. I'll post stories and pics in 2 weeks. It was started regularly but hasn't been in a few years. Its having all fluids flushed etc etc in December.

Post more soon.

if I remember right, Bob McDorman had a very low miles (maybe in the wrapper) '86 that was sold at auction recently (I think it was Mecum, because they were playing up what a great guy he was... I know differently, but that's a different story). He had a number of "firsts" type of cars with very low mileage that you may be able to get some comparisons. The fact that it is the first year back for the convertible, was a pace car (so you should have the box of stickers that came with the car as well), Canadian car, black, etc. adds to the value a little bit.

Whomever buys this isn't going to drive it. I would think a museum may be a good bet, or a high end collector that specializes in no miles cars, may be the only ones willing to pay the premium for a no mile car. There are a lot of 78 pace cars out there with 0-10 miles, and those haven't really brought the returns on that investment either. Most are lucky to get what they paid out of it 40 years ago if they sell.

One thing you may be able to do is work out with a Museum to sell it for a certain reasonable amt, but get a donation between that and the high-end perceived amount.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Bring A Trailer might be a good spot to test the waters for $99. They sell some wild stuff and have an international audience. Some Czar in Europe might be very interested

It is what it is. And that is an '86, representative of that exact way they were built.

There are "driver" quality '86's that you could easily find if you wanted one. But, you probably wouldn't find another one like this.

My advice is to not be hoodwinked by those who would have you believe that the car isn't worth anything because it would be a "basket case" of trouble getting it to the point of being drive-able. You say it is and I believe you. We need more pictures though!

Even if this was a base '75 coupe or '80 with a 305 and no miles, it would be awesomely representative of the times and worth good money for which that time in history means something.

Wait...get the word out, and you will find your buyer.

BTW, I was in sixth grade in '85/'86. I remember the times, the pop culture as it was then, etc. I remember on a Sunday, watching the Bears, McMahon, Peyton, and "the Fridge" winning the Superbowl, and then the next week, the space shuttle Challenger exploding 73 seconds after liftoff as they went "with throttle up". Memories to me.
