SOLD: 1991 L98/ZF6 in MI with 118k miles - $4000 obo
SOLD
1991 L98 ZF6 (6-speed) with FX3 suspension. 118,xxx miles.
The car is located in SE MI near Flint.
The trans shifts well and the engine runs and usually runs strong, but there are some quirks as detailed below.
I’m looking for $4000 as-is. Negotiable if you don't want all the spare parts. No personal checks or wire transfers. I’m not willing to ship so local deals only. Cash in hand has bargaining power, as does not having to deal with the Craigslist crowd.
This car runs and drives and would be a great deal for someone looking for a project. I bought this car 5 years ago and daily drove it for a year before moving to a position where I drive a company car most of the year so I think I’ve only put 2000 miles on in the last 4 years. I bought it as a toy and to practice tuning but with my work and school schedules and a newborn, I never was able to commit the time to get out and mess with the car, so it just sits most of the time. I’m looking to free up some garage space and get ahead on tuition payments.
The good:
- Superram intake. EGR and purge are bypassed
- Ported heads
- Lingenfelter 219 cam
- GM LT4 hotcam kit (1.6 rockers, springs, etc)
- Newer pushrods and ARP rocker studs
- 37# (I think) Bosch injectors from a 3800sc engine
- Long Tube headers with no cats. I doubt this car will pass any type of emissions or smog check.
- 17” C5 ZO6 wheels (will clear a C5 big brake kit)
- Blaupunkt head unit
A number of spare parts. Most are from a 1992 automatic LT1 part-out:
- 1991 Factory Service Manual with additional electrical diagnosis manual
- Complete (minus the shocks) front and rear suspension (dana 36 rear diff)
- Radiator assembly with shroud and fans and lots of coolant hoses
- Steering column and shaft
- Steering rack
- Torque tube/bar
- Radiator and frame support brackets
- Fuel pumps (2 from 1 side, 1 of the other)
- Brake booster and master cylinder
- Auto shifter assembly and linkage
- Traction control module and cables
- Brake calipers, pads, and rotors (have surface rust) from C4 and C5. I bought these to do a C5 swap but never got around to it.
- Window regulators
- Oil and trans coolers
- Blower motor wheel and air director
- Starter
The Moates Autoprom (realtime emulator for tuning while you drive) and Innovate LM-1 controller with new BOSCH wideband can be negotiable if you decide to tune it yourself. Otherwise I’ll keep them for future projects
Not as good:
- It could use a good tuning. It was already built when I bought it and the previous owner tuned to run in open loop all the time. I pulled the intake apart to fix a rocker stud and sealed up the intake leaks when I put it back together (Superram is tough to get sealed) and now the fueling is off. I’ve roughed it in so it runs right again, but it randomly sputters when coming to an idle after driving. Most times it idles fine. I think it is leaning out for some reason. If you know a good tuner with a dyno, this combo has some potential.
- It is using coolant. This is a relatively recent development but I had to add almost a gallon when I pulled it out of storage this spring. Could be anything, I just don’t have the time to investigate.
- Paint is OK but not show quality. Bumpers are faded and there is flaking on the front right fender
- The brakes are spongy on the first push.
- The exhaust is LOUD and could use new mufflers unless you enjoy obnoxiously loud cars. The original mufflers were rotting so I threw on a set of single chamber cherry bombs because I had them laying around.
- Shocks are worn out
- Tires are old and should be replaced.
- Headliner is sagging
- A/C needs a recharge
- Door speakers need the amps replaced. I have the amps but haven’t installed them. (can’t hear much over the exhaust anyway)
- The PASSkey stopped working this spring. The key is OK so I assume the terminals in the tumbler are worn/stuck. I bypassed the key for now
Thanks for looking. Let me know if you have any questions.
